Track pants or not, they're great looking pants. They fit nicely and the fabric looks suitable for a work environment. I like every way you've styled them and I like the ties out because it's a point of difference.

Thank you Angie and all of you ladies and am so sorry, but I couldn't come back yesterday evening to you for clearing misunderstandings ref. fabric of the pants.

They classify probably as a tweed(like Angie pointed out) with a small amount of elastane (2%) but I wouldn't call them stretchy per se.

Please excuse me if I was wrong but I thought they can be called track pants for the reason of being pull on style, a half elasticated waist detailed with those sporty ties on their waist. But they are NOT real track pants of course, but for me, they almost have the feel alike :-).

This outfit is super fabulous, Lyn! I love the pants and the booties together, and the longer cardi as a topper. I would probably tuck the ties in this case, since you have the bloused top and the scarf--I don't mind the sporty look of them, but I would probably tuck them away just for the sake of one less detail, or a cleaner look.
Your trick for wearing the shorter coat over the longer cardi is brilliant! Thank you--I will use that one.
And your white bag looks just fine; I like the way it picks up the white in your scarf. It looks intentional.

Is the tweedy plaid look a picture, the way pajama jeans have a "picture" of denim on a knit fabric? If so, I want a pair, and I take back everything I said about hating culottes. (See, these -- to me -- do not count as culottes, even though they are very like what Angie showed in her post about culottes. These are a little long, to me, even to qualify as gauchos. I would call them cropped full-legged trousers.)

As we discussed on the culottes pronunciation thread, culottes to me are full-legged above-the-knee shorts, more like a "divided skirt."

I've personally started calling pants like these gulocks -- the pronunciation used by Diana's mom, for whom English is a second language. It's way better and less confusing. I mean, it's totally confusing in that no one knows that you're talking about, but it's not confusing at all in that no one thinks you mean little full shorts or gauchos when you actually mean full cropped trousers.

So cute! I like the color echo between the shoes and top. For my 2 cents, I think the ties are fine and give an edginess to the outfit.

I love this outfit! The pants and sweater look beautiful and I like them with the burgundy. These longer sweaters are a problem under coats aren't they? I am thinking I will take mine off while I am wearing my coat and slip it back on when I get to work. But that just might be too much hassle. Anyway, I love the cropped pant, bootie look, very inspirational.

This are gorgeous and really cool pants and I love the way you styled them. They look so rich combined with the burgundy.
I too am not quite sure what to do with the tie on a similar pair of pants I have, so if I am wearing them with a top that allows for it I will tuck it under otherwise I just let it be and try not to think about it.

I love this outfit Lyn, glad you shared it!

I am wondering the same as peacechick... are they track pants? Or tweed pants with a tie? They don't look very tracky to me, they look quite professional.

Re the tie - I struggle with the same pants as Suz does in the summer, and also have a tie on my pleather culottes I'm never quite sure what to do with. I often tie it then flip it over and tuck it in.... esp if doing a semituck and it won't really show. For me it's not so much a workplace thing as a look thing.

And re your bag - well, it ties in perfectly with the scarf, so I bet noone noticed :)

I love the way you put this outfit together. The pants are interesting and fit well; the tie looks intentional because of the material and tips - I think this one should be shown. The boots and top coordinate and add color. The sweater looks great with those pants and the scarf adds lightness and interest. Can you tell I love it all?

ETA: I do love burgundy and charcoal/grey for fall, and with the long cardi I even felt a bit like Matrix's Trinity:-).

I love all these outfits. They look great. I would have some doubt about the ties depending on the formality of your workplace. I could leave them but I can wear sweats to work if I wanted. I think level of workplace formality would dictate whether you can show the ties.

Great to see you post, Lyn, and what a fab pair of track pants! I love the soft glen plaid (or Prince of Wales, as Approprio would remind me!) And is that a tuxedo stripe down the side? They look really great on you.

Beautiful mix with the long cardigan and the burgundies. Outfit looks gorgeous with the scarf, too. And aren't you clever to find a way to wear it with your fun, arty rain coat? I always struggle with that issue with long cardigans.

I think it is fine to show the tie here as it is quite subdued but I confess I always struggle a bit with that question as well. The dressier track pants I own thankfully don't have a tie. But I face the same issue with my summer linen pants.

... but some 7/8 tweedy upscale track pants here, which made my day (and perhaps the season as well:-)).

Some of you may remember I am generally a skirt and dress girl at my heart. I just hate pants as they never 100% fit or meet my aesthetics but this doesn't meet I stopped trying:-). Of course I, too do desperately need pants outfits from time to time- and I use them when needed - but very seldom feel fab when wearing them.

Several years (and body pounds:-)) ago there were the skinnies worn with substantial heavy shoes (for better body proportions) than the faded boot cut jeans with dramatic pointy toes that I last loved.

Few years ago had some scarce success with the chino BF's rolled up hems styled with fluid and faux tucked in tops (mostly sweaters).
This past 2 years I started to use AND love the stretchy ankle showing cigarette pants with all sorts of hi/low or longer length fluid tops.
And now I am on the way to fall in love with my 7/8 cuffed hem tweedy track pants, as you can see.

Is it weird or not, I guess nowadays I simply need to keep showing my ankles for loving a pant outfit.

Started with a faux tuck in (nr 1) but than went with no tuck for more comfort (in nr 2).
Then, I tried to show you some details of the outfit (nr4-7), including my trick(in nr. 8) to cover up with my bubble hem raincoat (nr 9) for driving to work.

Hope, nobody will mention my preggy (with the tied cardi on my waist:-)) looking self (nr10). Stepping out of my car I do really only have to make a few steps to my office.

Nr.10 is also to keep it real. From lack of time to changing it I still wear my summer bag to this outfit, oh well:-).

Thanks for looking, comments are always useful, good or bad.

I have a question, too:
-do you like/is it professional enough to leave the ties of the upscale track pants on show when wearing? (like me in nr 3).
I liked it for me as am alone in my office which is casual enough (even with some added creative flair of my industry) but still curious.
