I'm curious what island are you going to? The climate can depend on what island you are on, and even what part of the island. It can vary quite a lot, especially in terms of rain! I lived on the North shore of Kauai and we got all the rain, whereas the southside of the island got virtually none. </p> <p> A short, lightweight down jacket that you can compress into your suitcase is what I used to take to transition from a cold climate to the warmer one. Also, a large wrap/sarong can serve as a scarf, a dress, a bathing suit cover up and a skirt! I'd pack swingy little dresses and flats/sandals, clams and casual tops for excursions, and a couple of cardi's for covering up.</p> <p>For the plane I would just layer up. I'd pick something like slip on flats, comfortable pants (I can't bear to wear a dress or skirt for air travel just in case you have to slide down the emergency hatch- weird, I know!), a short sleeved top underneath a sweater and a coat if you really need it. You'll need your warmest gear for the shortest leg of the trip--between your house and the airport. Can you layer a sweater and a lighter coat?
