Debbie, if we don't have a receipt or the tag with the little Nordstorm sticker, we can only look up your transaction with the card you used to pay for the item. When we swipe the card we see your Nordstrom transactions, and that way we find the item you purchased. That's the only way to return something without a tag/receipt. We're not accessing any of your private bank info at all, so don't worry! Sometimes online orders don't have the little Nordstrom sticker so if you don't have your packing slip, we'll have to swipe your credit card to find the transaction.

Thanks Jeneva. It makes sense. I just didn't know how that worked.

Debbie, there has been a recent push from the top to match up the sale and receipt so they can properly see reporting. They could also take it back without seeing the transaction at all if need be. If she swipes the card she can see the transactions that were rung up on a given card by Nordies in the last few months. They do it that way to ease the return process...The other thing that works just as well as the receipt is the little bar code they affix to the tag. Not sure if they do this with online orders, though.

I took my Michael Kors belt back tonight and was a little surprised. The belt is obviously falling apart. At first I thought the sales associate wasn't going to take it back. She finally said she couldn't find it on my customer profile.
I told her I had ordered it on line. She then asked for my card and researched it for the transaction. I couldn't remember whether I had put it on my credit or debit card so she had both cards. I know she had to verify it but how to they verify a transaction like that. Can the sales associate access the bank? It made me uncomfortable. It's my fault because I didn't have the receipt.
I have a new belt and I will keep receipts for at least a year now.
