Hopefully: the old wonky jeans go back to Nordstroms, you get a new pair for hemming and a discount relative to the amount of trouble you've experienced thus far (you must consider gas costs driving back and forth several times).

Oh my. I think I'd have to take a break, ask for a refund, and try again at a later date after the wounds of this experience healed. If your Nordstrom was closer I'd say redo the whole experience, but since this is a lot of running around I vote retry in the future. Except one thing, do you really need this second pair of jeans? If so, I'd purchase them and take them to a different tailor that was closer to your home to get them hemmed.

Well, the drama continues. :(
I took the jeans back the weekend after I originally posted this, and they were re-done. I picked them up on Saturday and they were longer, yes, but one was STILL shorter than the other. Two friends and two sales associates saw it too.
Problem is, they can't let out the shorter leg any more, and that length would be just a smidge too short.
My shopper wasn't in, so the other girl just held a fresh pair for me and I took the funky hemmed ones home. For now. My shopper is supposed to contact me today.
One of the employees thinks one leg might be longer than the other - which is fine - except the other two pair of pants they hemmed were fine, and they actually DID mark each leg for hemming.
I almost just want a refund and want to take a break. I bought these over a month ago and still can't use them.
What would YOU do?

Make sure they pin up *both* pant legs with your preferred shoes on to your chosen length. Lots of tailors will insist on pinning up only one leg and then take the other leg measurement from the first leg when they go to hem them. That may work if you don't want PPL but often one leg is shorter than the other and this is where it will show up.

Good luck with the new pants. You look Fab anyway! I love your style!

Sorry about this Sarah and I'm glad they will make it right at Nordstrom.

Reading the other comments, this is a common problem.

I recently had 5 pairs of jeans RE-HEMMED at my own expense. I buy my jeans all over the place. I pay $15 for each alteration. So having them done twice, well, you do the math. The most common problem was uneven hem length. The only way I noticed was by taking pictures from the rear for this website.

When the hems weren't fixable (made too short with no real hem left), I have found another pair of shoes to go with the length of the jeans. Another reason to go shoe shopping. ; D

Oh, Sarah, what a thing to happen to your new jean! I need to find a new tailor after the one I was using also made pants too short and different lengths on the legs and then claimed that it's the fault of my legs! She doesn't speak English very well, so there was not much to be done.

I'd not only ask them to make it right, but to make it as easy for you as possible. That could mean overnight shipping the jeans to you instead of having to go to the store. Or maybe they would pay for a local tailor to hem them instead of making the trip. Mistakes happen but they should compensate you in some way for your time, expense and inconvenience. I've always understood that Nordstrom has great customer service, let's see it in action.

The same thing happened to me recently, Sarah, but at a specialty denim store. They made them too short AND hemmed one leg shorter than the other. I agree with everyone else that you should have them redone, and it looks like that's happening. However, I do disagree on insisting for a brand new pair before they try to fix this pair. When mine were done improperly she fixed the same pair and they look 100% perfect now. If they looked like they had been redone (i.e., if there were marks from seams being ripped out) I would have requested a new pair, but it seems fair to see what they can do with the original pair first.

First-love your outfit. Second, the pants. Sorry I would go back to Nordstrom and make them redo the process again. It stinks that you have to run around so much, but I would not be happy with short pants either. I wonder, if you had them jot down your preferred inseam if this would help prevent so many trips back and forth? This is always my fear with getting items hemmed, that they are not the same as when the item was purchased. I once had a dry cleaner shorten a dress that I never wore, then when I got home I realized it had a stain on it. They claimed the dress was like that and my new dress went in the trash, never worn and with me out of the money for both the purchase and the hemming.

Sarah- How frustrating! But you'll be glad you got it fixed when you wear the pair hemmed just like you want it!

It seems hard for me to get pants hemmed so they're not too short. I've started explicitly telling the tailor "I like them on the long side, it would be better to have them too long than too short" and it seems to help..... I hate pants that are too short, too.

Oh bummer. I was really excited about those jeans of yours. This has happened to me too at random dry cleaners that one leg is shorter than the other, and they are both too short. At least they will fix it at no cost and without giving you garbage about it. That is the advantage of shopping at Nordstroms.

Thank you all. My shopper is the manager of Savvy and she has already profusely apologized and insisted on fixing or replacing these jeans at my earliest convenience.
I was just not relishing the three trips to the store that it will require.
Yes, I do shop the Nordstrom at Barton Creek. It is a great store, and my shopper is quite fantastic.
We are supposed to get a Nordstrom within a year at the fab outdoor shopping center called the Domain, which is much closer to my house, and in fact, a stone's throw from my office.

Yes, I did take these home and wash them, and these are the very same shoes I took to the fitting. When the girl pinned them, they hit precisely at the floor where I like it. So I'm not sure what happened. :(
This length is not acceptable to me.

Just under an inch too short, because you like to wear your jeans as long as I do. For some of my clients this would be an acceptable length.

Did Nordies hem them after washing, Sarah? If so, I would ask for another pair and hem from scratch. No buts. This would be 100% unacceptable to me. PPL's are my hot button.

A few weeks ago, I did a haul shopping trip at Nordstrom.
I found some great jeans, and it was suggested that I take them home and wash them before having them hemmed.
I did so.
I took them in to get hemmed, and after I got them back, I put them on with the shoes I took in to the fitting and they are TOO.SHORT. In fact, I think one leg is shorter than the other.
I already talked with my personal shopper and they are going to fix it for me, but I just want to make sure I'm right that they are indeed too short.
I love Nordstrom but this has been a pretty bad experience. It's about a 35 minute drive one way to Nordstrom, so I made all those trips just to have to do it all over again. I also had to wait 1.5 hours to get the jeans after the alterations because they were not done when promised.
So here are pics (including WIW yesterday). What do you think?
The denim swishing at my ankles was such a weird feeling. Ack!
