Aurore, good luck. I hope it comes to France.

Angie, yes, I am grateful that I can order online. And that Nordstrom has free shipping and other stores have free shipping promos. And that I live in an area where I can do a pre order scouting at Talbots and J.Jill to narrow down my choices by seeing things I
can only see in person, such as that is too sheer or that color doesn’t work on me.

But I yearn for the experience of walking into a store and seeing something cute or wow and trying it on. I do shop in person at Talbots outlet and get things that work but rarely that make my heart sing. And yes, I can make an outfit that makes me happy.

I’ve had salespeople complain about doing returns.

And the returns! I ordered very little at NAS this year after perhaps returning 50-60 items each of the previous years. And another time when I lost weight and needed more clothes than usual.

It is depressing to order clothing, wait weeks for it to arrive, have package after package arrive, and then to return everything.

So, I am excited anytime I find clothing that I like that I can try on in person.

FWIW, I think that if you're not shopping online these days at least some of the time - you won't get what you want, and you're missing out. I often can't get my size in stores either - but can have it shipped.

Great!! I hope such initiatives will one day reach France as well. I'm sick of shops considering sizes greater than 42 (10US) as "plus sizes" and never having Talls (and seldom Petites).

Glad to hear this! My local Meijer store (like a WalMart, with groceries) does this in their extensive (but kinda cheap) clothing section. As a cusp-sized woman, I find this very encouraging.

I like this idea in theory, but so far I've been frustrated by Nordies online since they started sticking all the sizes together. I constantly find plus-sized styles that I can't try-- especially with dresses, where the plus sizes tend to be longer, there are more sleeved options, more modest stuff you can wear with a bra.

I haven't checked out my local Nordies yet. I hope I don't have the same experience as the above posters with the petite department. It was nice to have all the petites' in one place...it made shopping a lot quicker. But I will admit that it also makes it easy for me not to investigate the misses' stuff, and generally misses' has more interesting things, even though they rarely fit. It is worth the effort to find the gems in misses'.

fab....but i wonder if this will lead to more fustration with shoppers when discover that what they love isn't available in their sizes or worse isn't even made in their size---will it lead to them not come back or will it lead manufacturers to add additional sizes?

Angie, somehow I thought it was the manikans only/oops!

Jenn, I was glad to see the larger range of sizes but at least at my store they removed the plus sizes and are only returning them in jeans.

SandyG, I hear you. I’m planning on asking a sales associate to show me which lines might work for me, and a stylist if that doesn’t work.

Cindysmith, I think you might be the winner in this. I’d suggest working a SA or stylist. In my experience the stylists really know their merchandise although you have to know what you don’t like/want because they can have strong opinions.

Sterling, if most everything in departments is in all sizes and in proper order, yes. I would enjoy shopping with friends. But if it’s not....

Ryce, yes, won’t it be nice if the in store choice expands AND there are more quality items available.

This is a hugely positive development!
As someone who gets the best fit in petitie sizes, I’ve had the same experience as SandyG. The selection of petites is getting smaller and lower end. I’m spending a lot of time at the tailor lately! And falling back a lot on Loft, Ann Taylor and J Crew. I’m really aging out of those brands, so I’m not exactly sure what the next step will be!

As someone on the borderline between misses and plus, this sounds like a good thing in theory. The reality of it is that I'd probably be overwhelmed like Sandy was.

My local Nordstrom has started this practice. I understand it will expand. But right now it's like this -- mini rant follows -- as a petite I wasn't completely happy with a Petite Dept. and felt like I was missing out on the nicer fabrics and most current styles, but I could shop efficiently. Regular sizes are cut for bigger, longer bodies and rarely fit well. So I looked mainly in the one department for clothing. Usually in a hurry, too. I'm not a leisurely shopper.

Nordstrom doesn't seem to have expanded its petite selection to more lines, and items are now all over the entire floor. I had limited time to look and walked out hugely discouraged and empty handed. I just don't want to walk 10,000 steps looking at pants, only to find my size not stocked, or sold out, or the color I wanted not available. Size tags aren't in order, or hard to find tucked into the garment so just try to fish out one handed, or 'petite' is in the tiniest font and I need reading glasses to see it. I'm not certain this is progress. Online shopping is looking pretty good after that one local trip.

Yesterday I learned that my local Nordstrom store is one of the first that is going inclusive. What that means is that they will eventually have 100 brands with sizes from petite up to XXL in the racks in non sized departments, and jeans up to 4X. They are starting with house brands. I had to leave immediately after I learned this information so I haven’t yet checked to see what is available now.

There is still a significant gap between an XXL and a 2X. Which may mean a significant gap in everything besides jeans. But it does put in stores the brands that have extended their sizes beyond L or XL but not into extended sizes.
