What Suz, Barbara Diane and Gigi, said.

They seldom stock my size in stores, which causes me to shop online soooooo much more than I used to. I don't find it annoying. I'm thankful I can get what I need at least.

These days, if you're not shopping online to some extent - you are missing out.

Yes, it's frustrating, but at least we are seeing more plus size clothing available online and from different retailers, also. Getting used to online shopping can be a learning curve but if your friend begins by ordering from lines that have fit and flattered in the past, she'll have a good chance of meeting success, and later she can branch out to others for a try.

As others noted, she might want to double-check that they haven't integrated the plus sizes with the regular sizes. I heard a few months back that Nordie's was doing this with all extended sizing (plus, petite).

I agree that it's irritating. I am a petite with very narrow shoulders and a short waist, and I cannot fit into misses' tops 99.99% of the time, so I'm pretty much relegated to online shopping. I like Barbara Diane's view: no need to feel bad about ordering multiple sizes if they're not going to carry your size in the store. It's their own fault.

I used to get upset at myself for doing so much online shopping, but I just realized the other day that it's not my fault that I have to do everything online since retailers don't usually stock my size in-store. So I have to purchase the item to get a chance to try it on. Hence the huge number of returns. It's how I have to shop.

A few years ago our local smaller store did a major remodel and eliminated the plus size department. And lately some plus sizes have returned. They are mostly integrated on the same racks as other clothes, which can make them time consuming to find. And then there is one rack of just plus sizes, which might be just in store returns, as the contents seem so random.

Suggest to her to order multiple sizes at once if she is unsure. It’s hard to wait 10 days, receive an item, then another 10 for another size. I used to feel bad about tying up the merchandise but now I figure the company has decided to make my house my fitting room.

It’s so annoying. But one thing I’ve learned here is that people who wear petite or tall clothing have the same problems I do. It felt better when I realized that.

OTOH one week ago a Talbots Outlet store opened nearby. I loved trying on my clothing in store and I had more success than I’ve had at Nordstrom in years. And because it was so easy to try things on, I ended up buying clothes I never would have ordered online.

I used to shop at least 75% of the time in the plus size section. But as vanity sizing took hold, I could find more and more things in "regular sizes". So that might be part of it - their other sections are taking up more customers. And online shopping for plus size customers has exploded. I'm sorry for your friend - it is so disheartening to see nothing that fits you in the store - but I'm sure it was purely a business decision for the big N.

Don't know, but regardless of if the store has plus-size, the selection in store is pretty limited. I had to order things, try them on, and return them. Trunk Club was helpful for this as well.

I've noticed some Nordstrom stores are putting extended sizes on the rack with the other sizes, which works if one is on the smaller end of the plus sizes.

One of my friends is distressed that Nordstrom has removed plus-size clothing from their two stores in our city. She doesn't want to order online; she wants to try things on.

I wonder why Nordstrom did that?
