Elly -- You and I have nearly identical waist-to-hip ratios. I have your same problem -- either my skirts slide down to high hip, or they just stay nestled where they're supposed to and I have incredible gaping all the way around the waist. I did not have either issue with the Halogen skirt (and I bought the exact same skirt you have linked to). It sits right at the waist, with no gaping. And, bonus -- the skirt is lined. It is a heavier weight knit, really nicely constructed for the price point.

I have 2 Halogen skirts and they both sit a bit below my waist which does not bother me. They can be taken in if required.
I hand washed my Halogen skirt 2 times without any problem - and I have been wearing my yellow skirt once a week for the last 6 weeks and did not get sweaty at all.

I have 4 Halogen skirts and the 3 I got last year ran bigger than the one I got this year. The NYDJ comes up higher on the waist than the Halogen skirt. I love all my Halogen skirts and wear them year round.

Thanks for the info so far---

Debbie-- I did mean that I am an hourglass. I am actually pretty extremely so, so where the skirt hits at the waist is important and how much it tapers in from the hips and how much/how easy it would be to take in is super important to me. I have 39" hips and a 26" natural waist which quickly tapers out. I would ideally like to wear shirts tucked and show off my small waist since it makes me look slimmer, so sometimes things that sit further down loose the smallness and make it look like my high hip (at 32 or 33") is the smallest part of me.

Joy--- Thanks! I did notice that the two skirts were different lengths. Because I have long legs, the NYDJ should just cover the top of the knee cap, while the halogen will probably hit about 2" above the knee, which is still pretty conservative on me since I am young and wear a 35 or 36" inseam.

hmmmm

The NYDJ is long. How tall are you? The seamed skirt comes in regular and petite. The regular is 2.5 inches shorter than the NYDJ. They are all nice options.

I own five of the Halogen skirts and I have worn them three times this week in 90-degree weather. And they definitely sit at the natural waist, not below. For sizing, I have found them to be consistently one size smaller than my usual size.

But... washable is good!

The best thing would be to try them on. I own three of the Halogen skirts now and would wear them all year long. You can pop on a little half slip under them to keep the cleaning bills down. Also, try Dryell for cleaning/refeshening in your dryer. If the skirt is an occasional piece, it won't need to be cleaned very often.
Did you notice the difference in length of the skirts you are considering? That might make a difference.

Elly -- I am assuming from your comment about your waist-to-hip ratio that you have hourglass hips (slim waist, more rounded hips). I have the exact same issue, and have the same struggles you do with pants. The Halogen skirt fit me beautifully. It fit perfectly in both the waist and the hips. I nearly always have to have waists taken in, so was very excited that the Halogen skirt worked so well. I agree with Jjsloane that Halogen sizing can be tricky. On the skirt you're considering, I sized one size down from my usual, and it was spot on.

Washable is always good in my world. The only issue I have with the Halogen skirt is the sizing has been all over the place so you might need to try a few. Are you able to go try them on or order multiples and then return what doesn't work?

Hey ladies,

I am looking for a skirt to wear for interviews after striking out on trousers. I just have a feeling a skirt will be easier to fit with my waist-to-hip ratio and booty that keeps throwing a wrench into trousers.

I am considering these two options:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/no.....tiveSearch

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ha.....wordsearch

I know the Halogen skirt is super popular here. My concerns with it involve how it might fit my waist. I am not sure it would be easy to alter or could be worn at my natural waist, but I am not sure something that fits lower on the hips would be as flattering (Can you tell I am new to pencil skirts?) Also, do you dry clean it? Is it hot/sweaty because of the polyester?

THE NYDJ is unlined--- but is washable.

Depending on the job, this would probably be more of a occasional piece rather than a workhorse, but I would like to get something flattering and practical enough that I could wear it for more than interviews.
