I hear you on finding toppers this year! I just purchased the Loft moto that Dee posted. It is unlilned, and as comfy as a sweater. It is a charcoal tweed -- perhaps not enough different from black, but it does go with a lot of my wardrobe. I sized down and, at a size 14 with a bust, I can zip the large.

I would love to find another ponte jacket for my wardrobe, but they're hard to find right now. So, I'm relying on my sweater collection! Sometimes a dressy cardigan or sweater jacket can be a great topper, too! Macy's INC line has a lot of soft jackets and dressy cardis on sale right now.

What are the colors you'd like to bring into your wardrobe?

I have a purple blazer that is surprisingly versatile. Would something like that work?

I work at Old Navy now, so most of my new fall/winter clothes are from there. Do you like cardigans? They have quite a lot of cardigans, from ladylike to casual/slouchy. I have a burgundy one with flowy open front, and a marled burgundy/white cocoon one with short sleeves. And I just got a soft jersey one in a pretty blush pink, and a great black and white textured one. I also got a really cute olive print boyfriend one at Target. I love cardigans because I don't live in a super cold climate, so when I'm wearing a sweater, it's nice to be able to take it off if it gets warm.

For casual wear, how about an olive or tan utility jacket or military-inspired one? Or a bomber jacket in an interesting color or pattern.

This jacket looks much better in person than in the photo they feature here. It is darker and less shiny, and the draping is very flattering without being overwhelming. Last, it is fabric and very lightweight, so it is easy to wear indoors all day.

As for black toppers, a colleague recently told me that my wardrobe had the colour variation of a depressed teenaged girl's (meaning all black). I thanked him for the compliment and moved on...

I mostly wait until things go on clearance at JCrew or Banana Republic. Or Loft for extra affordability. I just a fun tweed knit moto there.

Winter seasons definitely skew toward more neutral colors though, I've found, so you may have to hunt a bit.

What colours do you like to wear? What is most of your wardrobe?

I think ideally it is great to have a topper for each core season in each of your key neutrals or at least one light neutral and one dark neutral. Plus a "wild card" topper.

My wardrobe is largely blue/ denim/ ink/ navy with grey, winter, white and taupe being alternate neutrals. For winter toppers I have a taupe blazer, a navy blazer, a black tuxedo jacket, a winter white leather jacket, a darker taupe leather jacket -- and now, my wildcard -- a blush moto jacket. I would also love a patterned topper and/or a bright topper in fuchsia or berry.

Hi Momo. How about this jacket? It's on sale through today for $39.99. It is so comfy. I've never had a faux leather jacket and the feel and fit is wonderful. I wore it to work last and this week and did not want to take it off all day! It comes in brown, grey and navy too. I will do a WIW with it now for you. : )

I like this Banana Republic boyfriend jacket in blue and grey. It's a wool blend. Sizes are broken now, but it's a good value if you can find your size - the blue petite is $36 with the extra 40% off.

I am in a no clothing buying time right now due to changes in my life and therefore my finances but.. I am realizing there is a huge hole in my wardrobe. I almost always wear a topper as I find that look flattering to my large bust. However almost all of my fall/ winter toppers seem to be black.
I have one jean jacket that I wear regularly and one burgundy jean jacket that I recently unearthed in my closet.
Help?
Any suggestions ? Has anyone seen any nice and affordable jackets?
