I've sung in my church's choir for over 15 years. Rehearsal on Thursday nights, all year. For 6-8 weeks in the spring there's an added (optional) Tuesday night rehearsal for the Tenebrae (Good Friday) service.

I also participate in a musical once every two or so years. Last year it was Shrek (I played the witch character).

Twice a month I have a small group/Bible study with other women of all ages.

A few times a year I have some kind of costume/historical event, anything from an afternoon tea to a full weekend camping.

I have other hobbies (gardening, sewing, antique/estate sale shopping) but these are the more planned, deliberate ones.

My daughter and I had season tickets to a theater before she left for college, and I rediscovered my love of live performances. Now that she's at school, we don't have the season tickets and Dh isn't as fond of theater as I am, though we still attend now and then.

And with our kids all in school or working and mostly independen (even with one living at home), we travel far more often than we used to. It is often just shorter trips, long weekends or four or five day domestic trips, but because he travels so much for work, it is easy for me to fly free and his accommodations are already arranged. His company has no issue with the practice, and his coworkers often do the same. So we have seen a number of cities we never would have had an occasion to schedule an entire vacation in, and it is a great way for us to reconnect as almost empty nesters.

I wouold LOVE to be more involved in other things (I want to take belly dancing lessons, and I'd love a book club), but for now we live in the middle of nowhere, so that is neither practical nor convenient. My hope is that we are able to live elsewhere sometime soon.

Most of my activities are more sports related like skiing and skating, and I haven’t been out to a theatre or concert since before the pandemic.

Now that I’m retired, I usually meet a friend for tea and a chat once
week at the local mall and a lot of my other time is spent painting. I’m doing a big piece right now that will hopefully be worthy of going up over the fireplace. I love visiting the AGO and the National Art Gallery when I get a chance. Adore the Group of Seven pieces especially.

Envious at everyone's interesting pastimes!

Currently I watch a lot of Hoarders episodes on YouTube (very therapeutic for me...) I also like to read quite a bit, and try to add in English and German language to my native language books. I try to bake bread at least once a week, and have started a very small garden plot that I hope will grow vegetables come spring. That's pretty much it.

I have also started to learn ice skating now as I'm nearing 40! Guess that would count as an athletic activity, but still a lot of fun for my non-athletic self!

I need to get back in the habit of AGO and ROM, we had memberships off and on prior to Covid, mostly as a family activity. But now that things are reopened and my kids are teens, with one about to fly the nest, my husband and I need to remind ourselves we also like to do things!

We are pop/rock music fans and always went to a few select cheaper smaller venue shows, together as a couple and/or with friends, but I have started going to big tours at larger venues again. I get some reward points at work that can be used towards concert tickets, so this week I turned a blind eye to the exorbitant ‘price’ in funny money and got tickets to Depeche Mode at Scotia arena. Last summer I took a girlfriend to see Duran Duran as well as driving to Casino Rama to see the Cult. I’m embracing the nostalgia acts of my generation!

This is a great thread. Thanks for starting it.
I am a major introvert. I don't mind spending all day doing things by myself. I prefer it. I also loved my job, which was working with people. I need a lot of downtime.
I like reading and learning. I am in an online literature group/course. We are deep reading the classics (Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Jane Austen, etc.) and the organizer lectures on the book. I also read other books.
I do puzzles like Soduko and math-type things. My undergrad degree is in math, and I like solving problems.
I am still on the faculty at the University where I did some teaching which means I have access to some interesting lectures. I can listen to them online.
I like art, but we live in a small town. I watch lectures by art historians on YouTube to learn more about art.

When we moved to this house, the backyard was a lovely swimming pool with two acres of horror around it: swampy lawn, mountains of dead invasive vines, dying trees, just awful. We spent a ton of effort channeling the excess water, removing dead vines, caring for existing trees and planting new ones, installing a native wildflower meadow and building a water garden with a walking path around it.

Nowadays, much of my activity involves walking this path with Bodie and Mr. A, bird-watching, tracking the changing of the seasons and the health of the landscape, planning future plantings including more meadows.

Mr. A and I have also created a "statue scavenger hunt" by going antiquing for life-sized statues of animals native to our region (i.e. no lions, no penguins) and hiding them along the trail. It has been great fun to see elderly visitors, small children, and Brooklyn 20-somethings delight in finding all the animals on the hunt. Yes, I give printed lists on clipboards to anyone who wants to play, and sometimes Mr. A or I will move a statue without telling the other where it is, so that we too have to find them along the path. Currently I am on the lookout for a pair of pigeons which Mr. A relocated and which I have yet to spot.

Any YLFers visiting Connecticut are invited to come walk the path and find all the hidden wildlife!

Right now, not that much, since I work and am a family caregiver, but the second I retire I will do All The Things!

Have just a couple creative things I'm doing right now- teaching drums, writing mystery novels, poi spinning, and nature photography. Sometimes I go to jazz concerts, gallery openings, festivals, and plays too. I'm a big outdoor person, so hiking, paddleboarding, archery, and camping too. Fitness is mainly swimming right now, and cycling in good weather. At home I read and spend time with DH and the pets :)

I used to do music for a living (writing, performing, teaching), dance (Latin and bellydance), act, make jewelry and other crafts, and tried to learn sewing. I also studied comparative mythology, feng shui, natural healing, and forestry. Used to ride horses, do Tai Chi, martial arts, Zumba, yoga, pilates, barre, tennis, and shoot pool too.

Wish I had time to do some of the things again, plus- learn to paint, get my master gardener certification, get my captain's license, learn surfing, and do some adventurous things like skydiving and hanggliding.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some things :)
ETA- forgot designing rooms on Roomstyler. Have Hundreds- lol!

This is a good thread for me as I am needing to make some changes.

I work about 32 hours a week and do a voluntary role as a Board Chair which can be 1-2 hours a week or on a big week 6-8 hours.

I occasionally volunteer at athletic meets (will be five over the summer period ranging from 2 hours to 12 hours on the day).

Outside sport and fitness the other activities include gardening, reading, dinners out and in with friends and movies. We go to the theatre a couple of times a year - this weekend we are doing to a performance at the Arts Festival.

I have been thinking of a new hobby - I do not enjoy crafts or sewing. I could spend more time gardening and possibly propagating. I also have considered dance or art classes as things I used to enjoy but no longer do.

I am currently in the transition phase - I haven't quite adjusted to what my life will be (and don't want to) but haven't quite worked it out. I am trying to give myself patience through this stage.

I think when you work full time or close to, it is hard to fit too much else in as there is a lot of general life stuff as well as work and health (laundry, sorting out bills, family birthdays etc)

I am involved in two women’s groups that meet monthly; both involve learning and sharing/discussion. My husband and I attend monthly art lectures from our library via Zoom; hopefully they will return to in person eventually. I regularly attend Zoom classes and lectures from around the world on a wide variety of topics including science, art, religion, culture, meditation, etc.
I’ve taken baby steps towards returning to indoor events but I have missed a lot between Covid and extenuating circumstances (now over) that required me to be even more cautious.

I love to read, although I don't do it nearly enough! I walk with friends quite a bit, which I view as a social activity rather than a fitness one. We love live shows but they are pricey ... still, we do try to get to the theatre a couple times a year so the kids are exposed to live performance (we've done the symphony, science shows, plays, and are super-excited about Hamilton in a couple of weeks time). And I do a weekly meditation class and a couple of yoga classes a week, which again are more mind-body and spiritual hobbies for me rather than fitness (but why not kill a couple birds with one stone!)

I always wish I was a gardener and get all gung ho on victoria weekend and then lose all my motivation :D

My part-time job as a virtual assistant gives me a good amount of opportunities to write articles, which is sort of a job-hobby mash-up too :)

My social activities are generally linked to my hobbies. At home, I paint, do collage, quilt and sew, run, read and cook. We are members of the local arts center, running club and senior rec center. At the arts center, I take painting classes occasionally, and we regularly go to the gallery exhibits there and other art museums around central Illinois. The running club sponsors races, so I run and DH often volunteers. We go to dinner a few times a month with a group of (mostly ex due to injury or surgery) runners. At the rec center, I attend a weekly painters’ group - lots of social support, lots of new friends, and we get to do our own art and entertain feedback from others. (Wink wink) I also use the small gym there for weights and treadmill equipment. The rec center also offers movies, games and cards days, and pickleball but I’m not into those at this time.

We have season tickets to hometown college basketball games, and attend our grandkids’ soccer and basketball games. Several times a year, we attend community theater plays, free outdoor concerts, art festivals and First Friday art walks.

We like to hike, either near home at county and state parks, or Colorado mountain area where one daughter lives. We sometimes ride our bikes on a paved trail system near us. With all these joint activities, you’d think I spend 24/7 with DH, but no! I work out, run, and do my hobbies and he plays golf or pickleball or volunteers at things separately many hours every day.

And it sounds as if we’re constantly on the go… also not the case. But I do appreciate all the fun and interesting opportunities we have in small rural town next to a medium sized college town in a medium sized region of a midwestern state with what some say is mediocre landscape and culture.

Perhaps I should mention birdwatching as I’ve just been trying to decide if a bird I see flying over the nearby fields is an eagle or a spring-returning vulture. Of course when I pick up the binoculars, it disappears from view behind the trees in my backyard.

Really, my "leisure" and "work" activities intersect so deeply that it's hard to pull them apart. I love travel, road trips, hiking, and visiting botanic gardens, which are a huge part of my art practice. Covid took a hit on my activities. Making a habit of visiting museums and galleries is back on my agenda. I'm slowly getting back into attending art openings and receptions. I've actually been really enjoying a lot of artist talks via zoom, and its so nice to be able to participate in something like that from all the way across the country! I give presentations and judge photo competitions, which is something that is undeniably social as well as work-related. It's a mix of zoom and in-person, which is nice.

Until the pandemic, I was serving on the organizing committee for a quarterly design gathering, which was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. After a couple of zoom gatherings, it became apparent that I was the only one left who was remotely interested in organizing these events, and I was not willing to be the sole leader, so it sort of died on the vine, unfortunately. Perhaps it will start back up again someday, but I will not be the one to initiate it. I also volunteer for a dog rescue organization, doing home visits to assess potential adoption families and driving dogs to their new homes once they have an adoption lined up.

I am an introvert and really do require good chunks of quiet alone time to recharge. So I value time spent reading, listening to music, watching streaming shows and movies, etc. Even my fitness activities tend to be more solitary -- hiking, a little running, bicycling. But I'm also enjoying my group pilates sessions and the occasional yoga class. I'm going to concerts (primarily rock shows) again, although not at quite the rate I used to. I haven't been in a movie theater in three years.

My husband and I love to travel together, spend time with our dogs, and hang out with my stepson and his wife, and my neice and her husband. We go to baseball games and occasional other sporting events (Navy football, Ravens football maybe once a year). He and I attend some concerts together, but I also go to a lot by myself, which is fine with me -- I've been going solo to shows for over 30 years! We do love going to restaurants, but when our new kitchen is built, I know we will both be spending a lot more time cooking and trying new recipes and techniques!

Lately we've spent a lot of time on neighborhood efforts as I am the HOA board secretary and my husband has volunteered to project manage the building of our new recreation area. We have really enjoyed getting to know our neighbors better, while helping improve the sense of community here. We hosted a neighborhood pool party last summer and are looking forward to doing more of that, since we do enjoy entertaining. We're also looking forward to playing pickleball together!

Hubs has played over-40 baseball in the past and has now been recruited to coach a kids' league, which he is enjoying. He's also started a new interest in astronomy and has a brand new telescope -- he's taken some trips to dark-sky destinations to stargaze. I'm really pleased he is finding activities that he enjoys, as he is preparing to retire from his business next year.

Most of my non-fitness related recurring social activities fell by the wayside during Covid (and partly as a result of our move).

Mr. Suz and I used to have season's tickets to the theatre and a membership to the art gallery. Less regularly, we'd attend musical events. We hope to resume these activities more often in the year ahead. We have returned to some, but haven't invested in the season pass thing. We do have a membership to a local horticultural society -- it gives access to the gardens and events held on the grounds.

I also attend many readings, literary festivals, and launches, usually with friends but sometimes with Mr. Suz.

RunCarla, sounds fun! I never played card but meeting other couples and playing a game sounds great!
LJP, my DH works only 4 days a week, I’m envious, I work full time. Yes, there is no much time left. We also try to see our grandson once a week. My DH thinks it’s plenty but I feel something is missing. I used to belong to a book club at work but people moved on and we stopped.

I wish I could say I had planned recurring things on my calendar but I don’t right now . We are both working , and trying to stay fit and eat well ….so that takes up 90% of my time and energy . I’m quite an introvert and prefer alone time to do my little things ( reading and building models / doing puzzles ) . We spend enough time together watching hockey or other tv and getting exercise , lol. And I don’t even get enough of that !! Who has time ??

Fitness activities are a big part of my life, and that of my partner in life. (I do gym, he does golf, and we do Tai Chi together), but we do have some non-sport activities to which we are committed.

DH and I are partners for the card game of Bridge. We play Duplicate Bridge every Tuesday night, and are also co-convenors with two other couples. I’m in charge of snacks! We also are part of a group that meet the first Friday of every month for dinner at a restaurant and play a few rounds of Bridge afterwards.

Before moving house 8 years ago, I had a weekly piano lesson that I attended from my early 40’s and was working my way through the Royal Conservatory system (got to grade 7 repertoire). Unfortunately problems with my fingers/hands has made playing the instrument difficult these days :-(

We share our fitness routines before but what about fun things?
Are you involved in non-athletic, recurring activities either by yourself or with your parent? I don’t mean hobbies or “go to movies sometimes “ but rather something planned.
We have a yearly membership to the Art Gallery of Ontario and visit it at least once a month. In the winter season we go once a month to a concert, classical music. I wish we did more but there is not a lot of free time and I have my sports & fashion, photography for my DH, reading and film for both. Curious to learn about activities that the Fabbers do.

Hope to find something new.
