Amen, Elisabeth, you have just written exactly what I've been thinking these past few weeks. Maybe it's just my lack of enthusiasm for the trends this season, or my realization that my priorities are shifting, but my style goals have changed. I'm not interested trying to be the most stylish woman in my workplace or my environment. I'm perfectly happy to use my husband as my mirror. If he thinks I look good, I can safely assume that others who see me will probably have a similar reaction. And, if he thinks what I'm wearing looks a bit ridiculous, I'd rather change my outfit than try to change his opinion.

Having fun with fashion is taking on different meaning for me. It means having confidence to reject as well as accept.
No nonsense, no fuss! Say it, girl, say it!

I am with you in that I cannot think in the morning and I want to get up and go. I don't want to deal with a lot of items to put on, lace up, button up, twist and tie. And after this week and weekend in my world of baking, let me tell you, mature and capable is topping my list (don't ask).

I'm sure I'll never be a uniform dresser, but formulas work for me. I've got the "tops" shelf and the "bottoms" shelf, and I can manage a pick one from each system and go from there.

p.s. Una: Closet as Curated Collection is a brilliant turn of phrase. In word and deed.
Well, as you know, I find the uniform concept pretty appealing on the whole. Especially when items are of good quality. That is another factor in transmitting authority.

This resonates with me as well. I have just a few silhouettes that I wear most often and it works for me. If I wear a topper it is with a simple tank or layering tee. More often I prefer tops that stand alone. Add a pair of pants or jeans and I am good to go.

And I hear you on the shoes! Adding a nice pair of shoes and a nice purse is enough to make me feel well put together and for most days I'm fine with that.

I am glad you are feeling good about your style.

This really resonates with me. I am feeling the need to get dressed without complex pattern mixing, many pieces, and fussy factors. When life overwhelms or changes, there's comfort in simple easy outfits that work. Not planning to go as far as the Land's End mix-and-match wear, but hoping to make my closet look less like a thrift store and more like a curated collection that hangs together purposefully. Thanks for posting this thread!

So I don't have a lot of time for fashion or YLF these days (which is too bad, since I quite like the new design!), but I've been in a no-nonsense frame of mind which has led to a few realizations about the direction I'm going in, style-wise.

1. I am no longer willing to futz around with details in the morning. I don't have the patience. I want to choose something, put it on, and get on with it. This is what got me thinking about just picking a "uniform" in the first place. I don't think I can manage only one uniform, but I can narrow things down to several basic silhouettes. Keeping the colour palette mostly neutral helps too, because not having a cacophony of loud colours to contend with keeps choices to a minimum.

2. While naturally I want to look moderately attractive (who doesn't?), it is more important that I appear mature and capable. Over the past few months I have had repeated meetings with medical professionals and school/university administrators, and I need my clothes to communicate the right message. Things like leggings and full, above-knee skirts are starting to feel ridiculously juvenile on me, even though they are figure-flattering. I have purged all girlish skirts (I only had two to begin with), and I am keeping the leggings for loungewear only. (I never found them comfortable anyway. They always slide down on me).

3. For me, less really is more. This means number of items in my closet (I am at the stage now where I'm implementing Angie's one-in-one-out rule) as well as the look of any particular outfit: simple, clean, leaning heavily toward the classic. Minimal jewellery. I've always got cool shoes and a bit of artistic flair to keep things interesting, but the overall look I'm going for is "no-fuss".

Time to get down to business.
