Nadya, good luck with your NAS too - I didn't see a lot of plus size stuff in the catalog I was in love with, but I know they end up having a lot more than that. Lyn, I've actually found my previous donations at one of my local thrift stores, and was drawn to them. At least I didn't actually buy them! Coco, I think I buy more thanks to the return policies - sometimes I wonder if it's a good thing or not! Maybe cowlnecks are my neon skinnies. LaF, your outfit sounds awesome, actually (Chanel on sale, be still my heart). Janet and Jayne, I'm so glad I'm not the only insane one

I think YLF has been good for me because I've widened my horizons, but that also means that I buy/try more stuff that's totally wrong for me. I guess it's good, because I'm keeping an open mind? I dunno, sometimes I wish for the days when I just stuck with what worked fairly well for me, even if it was boring.

Oh, I hate when that happens. I have a dress hanging on the give away hook that I bought less than a month ago. Craziness. It is uncomfortable, too short, glittery, too tight and too young. When will I learn?

Insanity: the definition is perfect!

What a brilliant thread: thanks for starting it, cos it's one we can ALL relate to!! Even here in France where we usually base our major purchases strictly round the neutral palette and jazz things up with the famous 'pop' of colour.

I came very close to my own personal disaster only yesterday, and honestly girls, I'm a very disciplined shopper. It's thanks to my mother, who taught me never to buy anything (even on sale) if I couldn't mix-and-match it with at least two key pieces of my wardrobe. Maman thought and shopped like the Parisian she was. But I fell in love with a scarlet slash-neck silk and cashmere sweater in the YSL boutique (cos we DO get cooler Summer days here in Paris, it doesn't always sizzle, believe me!). So far so good, after all, I reasoned it would jazz up navy, black, charcoal, all-in-all a good buy. THEN, I fell in love with a pair of Chanel ballet flats.......and they were such a BARGAIN!! in typical Chanel quilted cream leather, but with patent red leather toe-caps, piping and bows. Hmmm.....but oh, they were cute!! So out came the Visa card once more! THEN I had a sleepless night thinking about it all. They were both high-ticket purchases - designer goods don't come cheap even on sale. Just how was I going to justify those ballet flats??? (and Chanel doesn't accept returns of sale goods. Gosh! A third of my monthly salary WASTED!!) Thankfully, however, I found my solution. I have a very light beige pair of cotton chinos, and am wearing my scarlet sweater, and my cream and scarlet ballet flats with them. Even better? I have found a 'forgotten' cream leather jacket, which will be great with my buys come Autumn: Ouff!! Disaster avoided (this time round!! There'll be others! :-))

~ I purchase duplicates all the time. That is why I have 4 unworn fuchsia tops, tags still on. Hanging among the 6 others.
+ Things in a dressing room mirror look not only better, they look completely different at the store. It's a retail spell they put on us.
o I have purchased 5 different pairs of neon yellow skinny pants and none of them look good on me. Yet I can't give up. A 6th pair is on the way in the mail. Why can't I just admit neon yellow skinnies don't work on me? Definition of insanity: repeating the same behavior again and again but expecting different results.
= Thank heaven for generous return policies which wipe away the sins of a), ii) and 3. above.

Your thread made me laugh and obviously you are not alone.

Relate! The times I have nearly thrifted stuff I donated previously and purchased things I already have but temporarily forgot about. Too many times I fear!

Laura, you crack me up! We all have days like this. Take it all back Thursday and enjoy the preselect! I'll be at my own Encore dept Thursday and hopefully we can send each other long distance luck.

1) Nordstrom: ur doing it wrong, and u would be me. I went to the store this weekend and 'accidentally' bought a few things. Also have an appointment Thursday morning in Encore for NAS. Fortunately several of the things are going back, I've determined, so I don't have to sell myself into servitude quite yet.

B Among other things bought home a cute knit top in a print I love that is totally the wrong silhouette on me. I can't wear cowlnecks, especially sleeveless cowlnecks, and I know it, yet I bought it anyway. It looked so much better in the mirrors at the store than it did at home. Why is that?

iii- Took a bunch of mirror pics of the newly purchased items, and some of the things I'm thinking about taking to the writers' conference I'm going to in a couple of weeks. Ugh. I was going to post them here and get opinions but yikes.

4. So apparently I have a duplication problem. I brought home a coraly-red cardigan from JJill that is a near twin to one I already own, only difference is it's slightly longer with longer sleeves. This is not mentioning the hot pink cardigan I already own that serves the same function.

4b - on the same theme, Nordstrom had a denim pencil skirt on sale that I bought. I previously had - um, let me go count - 6 denim skirts. They are all different, and I do wear them all, but I'd probably wear some more if I didn't have so many. Oh, and that's not counting the one that's in my sewing area right now waiting to be dyed, or the two I have that are colors other than blue. I think I need a denim skirts anonymous program.

V Nordstrom was selling a Michael Michael Kors knit top that was literally two rectangles with a hole at the top for your head. For a hundred bucks.
