I’ve been saying that for a long time, based on my experience with a pair of Sperries. Earlier this year I let a good price on a pair by a good clothing brand and the general attitude here on YLF sway me, and I tried again. It was a mistake. I wore them once, for a couple miles, and my back was killing me by the end. There isn’t enough room in them for an orthotic from the drug store, even after ripping out the insoles. </p> <p>Athletic shoes are not all the same. They are made to optimally support your foot in types of movements specific to their sport. Tennis shoes are made for bouncy movement, lots of steps, and being able to move laterally. There are shoes made for doing aerobics-type classes, which are similar but I don’t think (I’m not sure) they have as much support for side-to-side movement. Basketball shoes, with their slightly higher, notched shafts, offer even more ankle support for side-to-side movement as well as the cushioning needed for coming down from high jumps. Weight-lifting/training shoes have a slight wedge heel. It goes on and on. Future purchases will be listed as walking, comfort, or practical things like trail runners, etc.&nbsp; Just ordered these Merrell-and I will stick to the sport brands.&nbsp; </p>
