Janet--I sort of remember that. I definitely remember it with skinny pants. I wonder what color denim I would pick today, if I could pick a color...maybe rust.

I quite like the color! In fact, I’m enjoying that denim makers seem to be doing colors again. I remember when skinnies were reigning and they made them in ALL the colors! Then that seemed to go away. Nice to see it return, and I’m hoping for a good pair of wide legs in burgundy.

Ket--polish is the right word. And a lot of people have mentioned the color--I'm not usually into army green, but these go into almost a forest ranger/state trooper color! Something. I probably won't get them, but maybe. We will see.

I LOVE the color for you!!! WOW! Great, fab find! I think the raw hem is just right. I'm not big on lots of distressing on the legs anymore--holes, rips, etc. But a frayed/raw hem can be quite polished in its own right. Can't wait to see you in these!

Lise--ah, thank you for clarifying that acronym. And being another vote for cutting your own jeans...
Janet--beautiful jeans. Remind me of the sort of exact late nineties, early aughts. Such great flares then.

What Suz said. I love my raw hem jeans. I even have some that I released the hems on myself to get a little more length (long legged people problems!). I don’t love holes in jeans or overly distressed styles, with the exception of my Celia jeans — I love the fit so much I’m willing to accept the little hole. ;-)

I like the unusual color of these, too.

I am a RATE (rough around the edges) dresser. I like raw hems but not purposefully distressed jeans. I have hacked bottoms myself and they don't unravel at any noticeable pace. I trim some longer bits once in age after washing. Probably the ones from the store are not like that.

Susie--good to know. I don't think I have ever owned Madewell anything, so a vote of confidence is good information.
Lisa--nice items. I really enjoy those Paige wide-leg jeans, and the more of these pants I'm looking at, the more I realize I like the contrast between crisp fabric and a raw hem. Like with the Paige.

Fun green color! I own and wear distressed bottoms. The ivory pair are Madewell and I have been pleased with them. I do notice after washing I have to sometimes trim the bottoms so it looks a little neater, but nothing has unraveled or anything. Everything has held up well over time.

cat2 and Robin--oooh, remind me what RATE is? Good point that the frayed hem is a subtle way to change up the pants. Robin, I just cut up three stuffy tees, and now they are cuter and more comfortable.

I love that frayed hems are acceptable these days. I have to hem almost everything and much prefer just chopping them off. I even do it with t-shirts, cut the hem and sleeves off and they curl up a little bit and fit me much better. A hemmed t-shirt never really looked right to me. I am a bit of a RATE dresser though.

Oh, the brown looks fun, doesn’t it? I am not usually drawn to anything RATE, but for some reason don’t mind my NYDJ raw hem jeans. I think because there isn’t any other distressing, so it doesn’t feel theatrical. I also figure if I get tired of them, I have a good tailor.

Irina--I don't think I have ever hacked a hem, except to make jean shorts out of jeans. Will try.
Aquamarine--come to think about it, I do love the classic look of distressed jeans shorts, especially when shorter.

Sharan--I suppose the occasional trim is doable!
Irina--I bet avoiding dryers is great for denim in general. I would love to do that, but now only do that with a few items.
Roberta--cute stuff. I still am wary of all the current wide-leg stuff for myself. But I love the skinnies, and imagine it draws attention to shoes!
Angie--I notice you tend to pick denim that feels crisp, whether it is crisp or not. And I bet that is a great look with the raw edge.
Suz--yes, I have never bought distressed. I have done distressing myself! Mostly in high school--those were the days. That distressing you do need to watch over.
Sloper--that could be! I don't know the technicalities on that--whether they finish it in another way, or not. I also had my naturally distressed stuff in the nineties.

I don’t mind *some* distressing in denim. I do have two pairs of cut-off distressed denim shorts I enjoy wearing casually. I occasionally have to trim the long strings but it doesn’t bother me. Same with the one pair of frayed hem jeans I currently own…not really an issue at all.

I personally do not mind frayed hems at all, especially if finished the way Roberta describes. They don't feel like true distressing to me.

I wear raw hem items - jeans and denim shirts, also t-shirts and cotton shirts. That’s about it. I have “distressed “ jeans where texture is printed on viscose fabric.
My 7 years old jeans with raw hem holder up well and I only trim loose threads once in awhile. But it hugely depends on quality of denim and how often it’s washed. Also, I don’t dry my clothes in a dryer. Maybe it helps.

Carol, those jeans look great. Such an unusual color, and from the photo, the denim does look substantial. I've had Madewell jeans and like the quality.

I'm not a big fan of distressing, but I do have some of it. Yes, the raw hem will continue to fray. Every time I wash denim with a raw hem, I have to give it a fresh haircut before I wear it again. It doesn't fray so much as to really change the length, though.

I noticed these jeans, which would be a fun new item--outside my wheelhouse. I enjoy the easy shape and vague throwback quality to a time of thicker jeans.

I don't know that I will get them--I won't die if they go fast during this sale. I will at least have "looked" outside the box.

They have a raw hem, which is, I believe in the category of distressed jeans. I know that was a huge fad 5, 10, 15 years ago. As I have said before, once a trend is over its big wave, I will finally pick it up.

Do you like distressed jeans or other clothes? How much distressing will you handle in your clothes? And my BIG question is--with a raw hem or other distressing, is it going to continue unraveling once you take it home?
