what's in a name! You like it, you wear it! Just make sure it looks good. You should look good and feel good! Ultimately that's what counts, don't it!

Thanks, Anna! That's the real thing, isn't it.

Fortunately I need to focus elsewhere, and if I were to get a new watch, I would still like the mixed-metal features of my trusty old Seiko (which also has a black face), as I use that as a bridge my gold wedding and engagement rings with silver metals I more commonly wear in jewelry and accessories. I know it isn't necessary, but I like to do it and like mixed-metal jewelry in general.

I have a negative association with some names, too, and yes, it keeps me from seriously considering some products. It's kind of funny, though, to let something like that keep us from getting a style that we otherwise really like. Just a reminder, I guess, that words do matter.

I wouldn't worry so much about the name or logo but the recent reviews about the atrocious quality of the brand.

I hate logos too, especially big ones. I caved and bought a North Face fleece jacket with not one but two giant logos on it, but only because it was so incredibly soft. Also I'll probably be wearing it under a shell, covering up the logos. So there, TNF!

Richard "I am not a crook" Nixon - I have negative connotations because it turns out he was a crook. On the other hand, I have several other connotations with the name. I knew a girl who had that last name. A friend lives on a Nixon Ave, and it is in a nice part of town with lovely homes on it. There is also a town near here with that name,

Kardashian - no way would I buy anything that would give any of them my money. Same goes for several other big names that have been mentioned here and some that haven't.

lisap, so true re: J.S.! I have reached for what I thought might be the perfect handbag in TJMaxx several times--color or style or both-- so I can't even say the purses aren't any good, but then I turned them to find Jessica Simpson and poof, no bueno there.
I'm afraid MK is in the same category for me--I've found some great simple leather clutches, but just will not carry them with Michael Kors across the front or frame or whereever.

A Nixon watch wouldn't phase me one bit. I think both of these watches are great looking.

It's all the Hollywood/music industry names that I wouldn't touch for anything, including the two that lisap mentioned.

IMO, as far as watch brands go, that name is not overly conspicuous or noticeable. As far as conspicuous consumption goes, that isn't it. Like you said, it is very difficult verging on impossible to find ANY watch that doesn't say its brand on the face, whether it's Timex or Rolex. And Nixon is well known for watches and accessories, so I don't think there would be many questions about it from others. It is a fun, on-trend watch, and I wouldn't think twice about buying it if it fits your style.

Interesting ! I bought my husband a Nixon watch a few years ago and never even thought of the name connection until now. They have great designs and I love these two watches you've linked here . . I have to admit that I wouldn't buy anything with the Jessica Simpson label showing - just can't with her - or anything related in anyway to a Kardashian .

As a lifelong sufferer, I can't stand the brand name ACNE! (Even though I know it's a Swedish acronym.) I bought a scarf by them once though, and may buy their shoes before long.

I would ask if the Nixon bothers you because of your associations, or if it mainly bothers you because of what others will think. If you're going to be seriously bummed whenever you see the name, I would move on. If it's others, you may be able to find a way to pass it off lightly, if they notice. Nice watches though.

Unfrumped, I also avoid obvious logos but wouldn't bat an eye at buying a Nixon watch. In fact, I almost bought one in a teal green a few years ago. Unless it is emblazoned across the item, I have no issues with brand names.

I really like the second one you posted. Thanks for sharing.

In ongoing burgundy madness, I saw this fun burgundy and silver watch by Nixon. It's an interesting company that has a lot of fun watch styles.
But, as a baby-boomer having lived through the Watergate era,
I'm not sure I can sport Nixon on my wrist with a good feeling. But these guys created a highly successful company based on that name.

What about you? Do certain names, specifically this one or perhaps some other name, make you hesitate before wearing?

I have been avoiding handbag names/logos and in general hate any names or very obvious provenance on my clothing or accessories, but watches typically have it right out there.
