She was floored at how accurate I was and that she had a new wardrobe for the first time in 7 years ( a real struggle and money problems as a single mother). It helped tremendously that I measured her and she and I have similar body size so I could try things on and get a feel for what would work for her. I learned that shopping with Adelfa the other weekend. </p> <p>...And also strangely different than shopping for your children... I mean older ones. Well, I guess the thing is, when you shop for your kids, they're very much all about *this is you and this is me* - not necessarily in a critical way, but they're all about differentiating themselves from you. And of course, it's <i>your </i>budget they're pushing the boundaries on. I'd never really tried to be the 'expert' for someone else so I was a little anxious, but it actually went quite well. She's very eco-conscious so we decided to start with second-hand stuff, thrift and consignment. I took her to the local consignment boutique, where I encouraged her to try on a bunch of things and we started narrowing down her size and what she was looking for. By the end of the day we'd gone to 3 stores and found her 6 items, including 2 complete outfits. </p> <p>It was funny, though, in that she found it rather tiring and overwhelming and after the third store I thought 'hey, I'm just getting started'. She was happy (as was her husband - she actually bought a skirt!) and I had a good time as well. Just wanted to share with all of you, since YLF can be given partial credit for developing my 'expert eye'. </p>
