Designers barely take notice and retailers stock what they think will sell.  As for the shade itself - sure - it's going to work for those who like muted and moody colours. When I first saw this I was disappointed because I can't wear anything with any brown in it, ever. But on looking closely at it-- it looks very close to the "Bistro Burgundy" lip colour (Cover Girl) that I identified, years ago, after much trial and error, as "my" nude equivalent (I need contrast). Then they went and discontinued it, and my stockpile has almost tun out. I have searched for a replacement, but everything has ended up too red/ too purple/ too brown/ too bright.That same muddiness that detracts in clothing colours is an asset for matching skin tones. I quickly went through some of my fashion and color pins and found some items I've saved over the years. I like these more complex colors, I think they are visually interesting compared to what I think of as the 'straight-out-of-the-tube' colors, so I'm happy and hope to be seeing it. FWIW, I used a Bejamin Moore colour called Putnam Ivory in the principal rooms of my last house, and my painter called it 'Baby Poo'. AT went deep into "chianti" this year compared to more classic burgundies as did other retailers. I purchased a couple of items in this vein (!) that I thought were particularly useful style-wise for winter, and that mix & match with my wardrobe, but had to keep reminding myself not to buy more because "my" colors would resurface at some point. I do think it is very useful for footwear--my Everybody boots are a brownish-burgundy and for now I like that they are kind of indeterminate, fairly  neutral but still different from black or brown.
