Boy, am I glad I signed up for this forum - excellent advice shiny - thank you!

I used to have a lot of black in my wardrobe, one of those things that you 'do' when you're overweight - buy and wear a lot of black clothing. I realize now that this isn't such a great idea, and besides - none of those things fit me anymore, and I'm not going to go for more of the 'all black' again. A few pieces might be ok, but I'm hoping to add more colour and interest to my new wardrobe.

Ok - so now I need both black and an alternate - brown or cognac/wine/grey. Yay! (laughing here).

Velvet, another consideration is that suede can't really be worn in the rain or snow, which limits their use if you live in a rainy/snowy environment. I do have suede boots (in both black and chocolate brown) and I can assure you that I wear my black and chocolate brown *leather* boots far more frequently (probably about 10:1). I do love the texture of the suede but here in Boston we get a lot of snow so it's not that practical. In fact, I've found that pleather is even more practical than leather, as the salt wipes up easier.

As for color, I wear both the brown and black leather boots about equally. The black goes with gray skirts/dresses, and works well when I wear a cream coat that has black buttons. However the brown works particularly great with denim and also with black dresses. It gives some contrast instead of being all black (black dress, black tights, black boots...too much black.)

So if you find you like to wear a lot of black, I would suggest that black boots aren't necessarily what you want! Grey, chestnut, chocolate brown, wine... all can add some interest to a mostly black wardrobe.

Thank you cciele - while I love the 'idea' of those boots, I don't think they're very practical. I think I'm very much swayed by the sale price. I like them, but then again - they don't go with anything in my current (albeit limited) wardrobe and ...well, I think what Angie said got me to stop and think a wee bit - when she said, "and what you want to get". Yeah, I like them - but ...they're not really 'me'.

Oddly, I feel a wee bit sad saying that. I've been 'eyeing' these boots for a few weeks now - wondering if I should get them, loving the idea of them. Honestly though? I'd much, much rather have the exact same thing in black leather.

Thanks for the feeback, especially that bit on how 'good deals' tend to sit in one's closet.

Welcome velvetychocolate!

I also love the dress, but it's hard to know whether it will work with your body without seeing a photo of you (hint hint) :)

The boots are really cute! I think the key area of fit would be the calf circumference. However, I would hesitate buying things just because they're a good deal. I've done that a lot in the past and those things tend to sit in my closet -- thus not being a good deal at all.

Thanks so much for the reply Angie - much appreciated.

Haven't posted a picture yet - that'll be my next challenge. Need to do that, because I really have no idea what my general shape is.

Good point about the border on the bottom of that dress. I can see why maybe the tights might look a wee bit weird. What do you mean by hose though? Don't laugh, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around hose/no hose/tights etc.

The brown suede wouldn't be versatile at all - but this is mainly because I don't have much of anything, and have no clue what to get. lol!

What I want are a pair of boots just like that, but in black leather. Thing is, the sale is on the chocolate suede ones. And, I do like them - just that I don't (yet) have anything to wear them with. Plus, the suede - looks gorgeous but might not be the most practical for my first pair of 'tall' boots in a very long time. I've scrutinized the sizing on these, and I'm pretty sure they'd fit quite well.

The denim pencil skirt is still tempting me! As are the boots.

When I get the dress, maybe I'll post a picture and ask for further advice on the hose/shoe issue.

Thanks again

Hi velvetychocolate! Welcome to the forum and congrats on the weight loss.

o	The first dress is really pretty. Fab with hose and pumps, or just pumps. Fab with boots too. Not sure about the opaques. This will depend on the shoes. Leggings should also work though. Be careful with the horizontal border on this frock. It *might* break your long lean line. But it could be great too.

o	The boots are sweet, but they have to fit properly EVERYWHERE. Also, how versatile will brown suede be in YOUR wardrobe? They could be fab, but it really depends on what you have, or what you want to get.

o	The denim skirt is gorgeous.

I’ve commented generally on these items because I recognize the product. However, I don’t know what you look like so I can’t be completely sure! Have you posted a picture yet?

Just updating: I went ahead and ordered the Alfani wrap dress and decided to take a pass on a second dress I'd considered (post updated to reflect this).

Total newbie here, finally de-lurking after many months of reading. :)

I'm about to dive into buying some dresses, something pretty new for me since losing quite a bit of weight. I'm not quite there yet, so don't want to go nuts on clothes until I really do reach my goal. In the meantime, I'm loving the idea of wearing dresses again, for the first time in many years.

Anyway - was wondering about this dress:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....x-xx.index

I think it's pretty, but am wondering if I can wear it with black opaque tights and pumps in the fall/winter. Plus, is this dress something that would be "YLF-approved" ??

I've also got my eye on a pair of boots - I'd much prefer to get a pair of these in black leather, but have found a good deal on them in chocolate brown suede:

http://www.shoebuy.com/ecco-bremen-boot/272823

(I'd be able to get these for a lot less than the price listed on that last link, but only in the chocolate brown suede).

So, I'm wanting the boots, but really have nothing to wear them with. That's likely because I have no clothes...anything I bought last fall/winter is now too big and I'm pretty much out of everything. Should I just go ahead and get those chocolate suede boots anyway? I have had very good luck with the Ecco brand of shoes, and find them very comfortable.

Meanwhile, I'm also wondering about this denim pencil skirt:

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../19326.jsp

I love that! And I think it might go with those boots. Thing is...I'm still dropping sizes. Not sure about buying a denim pencil skirt that could end up being too big in a month or so. Is this something you'd wait on in terms of getting to goal size/goal weight?

Thank you
