Hi Queenie - welcome! I am also in my 40s with two teenage girls. I know what you mean about the quality seeming to get worse and worse.

Since I work from home, I actually do my errands and such wearing smart casual clothes. Part of it is that it just feels so good to have a reason to get dressed up and out of the house! Also it ensures I get full use out of my better clothes. And I am sure it helps that I happen to live in a town where everyone seems to dress up all the time. You rarely see gear in the grocery stores here, and if you do, it's LuLu Lemon yoga gear, nothing sloppy.

At first I felt weird about dressing up but what I found helped is to cultivate an attitude of "I'm just running by the grocery store on my way home from the office."

I am petite so I rely on Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, and Banana Republic for probably about 90% of my wardrobe. You may also like Jcrew as well. Quality at AT, BR and Jcrew is pretty good; ATL is hit or miss.

Hi Queenie- welcome to the forum!
I'm a SAHM in S Cali, too I actually find a lot of things at Target, Kohl's, and Banana Republic Outlet, Express and The Gap. But I'm on a weight loss journey, and I am shrinking out of things before I have a chance to wear anything out.

HI, I just thought I'd introduce myself rather than just jump in on the converstions. I love Anjie's blog and read it faithfully.

I'm a 40 something stay at home mom of 4 teenage boys (thus my user name queenie) living in casual sunny California.

I'd like to know where you ladies like to shop for your casual "grocery store/orthodonist, running errands, etc" clothing. I used to like Old Navy, but lately it seems like the're making their tops out of such thin cheep looking fabric. Even a couple of tops I picked up at New York and Company don't seem to be washing up very nicely and need to be demoted to "Saturday" status too quickly. So, where should I be looking for my daily casual wear. I've got a pretty good handle on my smart casual capsule, but need to concentrate on the simple casual capsule.

Does that even make any sense?
