Both pairs are fantastic! How fun to have a new silhouette to play around with and add some spice to your already-fab wardrobe! Comments from strangers (and partners) about our clothes are funny, aren't they? I was wearing a pair of nylon track pants (trendy, fun, comfy) and the first thing my SO said was "hey, coach." So, there you go :)! He just has an entirely different set of references for fashion and trends than I do...

When I first read your post I thought--"Nah, been there, no wide-leg jeans for me."

Then I did a little shopping on Nordstrom Rack, looking for new white jeans. I found a pair of ivory Joe's jeans on sale, wide leg but they didn't look too wide. Joe's work well for me so I decided to get them. If I hadn't read your post I wouldn't have gone for them.

We'll see how they turn out for me.

Suz, those jeans are adorable on you!!! I feel like they look really fresh, despite wide legs being a throwback to the '70's, etc. You have styled them so perfectly, too! I desperately need new jeans...just need to find time to shop for them. I feel like trying to order them on line would be exhausting and super time consuming.

Brooklyn, that makes sense. When I lived in Ontario, I virtually never wore jeans in high summer (the humidity made it seem hotter) -- though I would wear them occasionally -- esp. white ones -- on summer evenings. (Leg coverage helped to prevent mosquito bites.)

In my current, more temperate climate, I still don't wear them much in high summer, and if I wear them at all, it is as crops. But high summer is probably shorter here -- July/ August.

For me, they are on high rotation between September-June.

Suz, I hardly ever wear jeans in Summer. Too hot! If it’s a cooler day in Summer I’d probably opt for my cargo pants now. They are lighter. Although full length, they are loose, which helps with heat/humidity.

The jeans season for me is May to September, with some wear in April and October. So about 7 months of the year. But I wear them hard in Winter!

Style Fan, thank you. They look fantastic on you. And yes, we definitely both do well with CoH. I might give them a try on when I'm next in an Aritzia store.

Angie, thank you! Your VB jeans are gorgeous! Love that light faded wash for summer (and cool spring.)

Kyle, Mr. Suz is a bit skeptical, too, but he was really skeptical when skinnies came to the fore. I guess we could say, in YLF terms, his eye takes a while to adjust and he is a slow adopter. I know once he gets used to the look he will love it -- he always does adjust!

I should note, I have taken the comments I've got all in good fun and I'm 100% sure they were meant that way. I detected no malice from anyone. People are sometimes looking for a conversation starter and sometimes it's what you're wearing. :)

Suz, CofH jeans fit me well too. I got the Annina from Aritizia last summer. I notice that they have several washes in stock. Shopbop and Revolve also have them. The reviews are all excellent.
They fit true to size. I always order two or three sizes just to be sure. The jeans I have are Blue Rose - 100% organic cotton. There is some distressing around the pockets. I like that look. They have not stretched out even when I wear them four days in a row when travelling. Very comfortable. They are not stiff denim, so they are probably not as dressy looking as some jeans. That would depend on how you style them.
They have a button fly, which I was worried about but has not been a problem. They sit a bit loose on me, which I like. I have considered getting a second pair in a different wash. Maybe a darker one.

Suz, both new pairs are KILLER on you! Legs look soooo long

Love the way you styled them too. Fab cotton sweaters from J. Crew!

I LOVE wide legs. I had a pair 3 years ago. Passed them on a month ago. Got too faded and casual. Upgraded to the VB’s which I’m wearing now! I love the dressy even wash. I wear them with boots and sneakers. They glide and are fably swooshy!

Wide crops I’ve been wearing for at least 6 years. Like you! I love them too!

Great looking outfits, Suz. I’m surprised they elicit comments, and some people are quite cheeky in their remarks! I’m slowly growing more comfortable with wider leg options. I have a pair of the Anthro Colettes, and that’s probably it for now. My husband remains skeptical.

Thanks, Christie -- what a nice compliment. I have a lot of help here at the forum and from Angie's blog posts! And I also had a US shopping trip, which allowed me to try all the jeans. (It was fun but frazzling! I feel like I tried on 100, though it was probably more like 20 pair.) It pays to make that effort, though. The comparisons really help narrow things down.

Tanya, yes -- I think you had those same J. Crew trouser jean crops. They were good -- except they stretched. I guess all jeans do, to an extent, but it's the how and where of the stretch that made them annoying. Anyway, they were low waisted compared to the current versions.

You are a brilliant stalker of sales so I have no doubt you will locate the jeans you're after at a better price. I'll be cheering you on!

unfrumped, they proportions bring back memories, no?

Dee, you are definitely on board with the look and wearing it very well indeed! Give those kids a run for their money.

Bijou, I think you'll enjoy the drama of this style.

Olive Green, thanks!

Brooklyn -- just look at those new jeans of yours! Can't wait to see them on. A question -- how long as season will full length denim have in your climate as compared to cropped, or does that not make any difference where you live? I think for me they'll be a 3 season item, wearable on some high summer evenings, probably. But my summer is relatively short and (used to be) temperate -- though with 40C temps these days, maybe not so much anymore!

Zaeobi, I think that is wise planning.

Joy, thank you!

Slim cat, you look amazing in the black wide legs! Maybe some blue ones will show up on sale somewhere. I think maybe Gap has some lower rise versions coming in and I predict Anthropologie will, also. Lower rises are definitely becoming more available.

Irina, thank you!

Jaime, ha! These were comments from strangers, not the family, and strangers wouldn't know what I usually wear. But I think maybe if my overall look were less classic I'd get fewer remarks. It's the presence of one statement item that really stands out that makes people feel free to talk, I suspect....

Both pairs looks fantastic on you, Suz! Full length wide jeans (and pants) feel very fresh to me at the moment and are what I want to wear the most often.

I have had a very similar path with wide legs as you. I started wearing the cropped wide legs around the same time you did, went through some iterations, retired some due to quality issues etc., then upgraded. I currently have three pairs: soft white, casual dark and dressy dark, am happy with those and do not want or need more. Unfortunately for my budget, the last few years it is rare that I am truly happy with non-premium denim. When going through iterations, I usually end up with pricey/premium version of jeans working the best for me. The only exception are so-called "novelty" jeans -fun pairs that are colored or in very experimental cuts that do not get worn nearly as much as essential jeans.

For full length newer versions, I appear to be following the same trajectory. I started with inexpensive fun pair from Target to test the water, and I still have them. Then I got a nicer VB pair, although I am not 100% sure they can be classified as true wide jeans, as the first two inches on the upper thighs are fitted, after which they are wide. For this year, I really wanted a white pair, and have the Frame pair on order. I also want a light wash pair, and so far my favorites are the VBs Angie got, but they are super pricey, so I am stalking them hoping to get them for at least half off.

I love these on you.
I like the full length with higher rise because of the great legline with shorter tops. And because if the fabric is at all substantial, it’s season of use is coolish weather, so I like covering sports sneakers, which are my most comfy shoes. If crops , I need short - ish boots.

Its generally been the younger folks around here that have been sporting the wide leg look for a couple of years now but I am starting to see a lot more age groups slowly coming around to this silhouette and I am on board as well with 3 pairs of wider jeans in rotation.

These look great with your white boots! I like this length in trousers but I think I'll stay away from wide leg denim for now - not a long enough winter season here to justify it...

I also like how the dark wash pair work with your tweed jacket for a work look

Looks great - love it! Fav is #2 with scarf - but all is fab on you!
I enjoy wearing my wide leg black jeans from BR but could't find any blue ones that suit me ( missed BR low rise version - all gone ). Wide leg trousers are currently my unicorn - tried and tried without success ;( .

Suz these look brilliant on you! I had to smile about the idea of avoiding comments on your clothes by avoiding trendy items - another approach is to always wear unusual stuff until it is no longer worth mentioning !

Thanks, Jussie and Mirjana.

Bonnie, you wear your wide legs well, and it is indeed great that we have so many options! I like the balloon legs, too.

Blue Jay, yes, I match Max! Except for his colourful collar. Those look like great wide legs. Encourages me to try the Gap version I'm considering.

LJP, I know what you mean about cheap cotton knits that stretch out. Cotton knits are notorious for that! These ones are pretty good so far. But I have suffered through my share of duds.

As far as I am concerned, you are the Queen of the crop flare/ kick flare. It suits you down to the ground. I adore the style but it does not love me. I agree 300% about those earlier BR jeans bagging at the knee. Also at the hip. I loved how they looked, freshly washed. But they bothered me later in the day. The newer ones have not had this effect. But of course the price point is higher. I think the quality will filter down, though -- it usually does. I'll bet this year's version of wide legs at the box retailers is better.

Style Fan, you were made for wide legs and they love you! Tell me more about those CoH Annina's. I love CoH jeans, so they might be a good option for me.

Sal, LaPed, footwear can indeed be an issue. We used to think only pointed toe shoes worked with boot cuts, flares, and wide legs...but I'd say wide legs actually work with a number of styles -- platforms work (very 70s!), flatforms, sneakers (if the jeans are short enough) boots with lug soles. I tend to think square or snipped toes, or pointed are best. But you know, sneakers are round (mostly) and they can work. So it's worth testing a lot of options. I need a platform sneaker or flatform for these full lengths...but these are the shoes I've tried so far and liked with the full length.

LaPed, love those cords! Great colour.

I really like both pair of your new wide leg jeans. I've been wearing wide legs for several years and they are becoming my favorites. I still like balloon legs and flares, too, and these interesting leg options are a fun alternative to the straight legs that have recently been popular. How great is it that we have so many options these days.

These both look really great on you, Suz and the lengths are perfect . Also admiring the sweaters as I've been on the lookout for a couple of cotton sweaters for spring, and not finding anything worth spending money on. Cheap cotton from Gap or ON just doesn't cut it, but I am not seeing anything else around!

Back to the wide legs - I had those same wide leg crops from BR a few years ago, as well as a pair from Jag, but they were just "ok". Both were too stretchy and didn't hold their shape well, especially around the knees. I've tried quite a few pair in the newer full-length incarnation, but have yet to find a pair that fits properly, and that makes me feel good wearing them. I don't love super high waists, as they create a poochy stomach on those of us that aren't thin . I think it also has to do with the styling that is required to make them work: tops that are either cropped to the waist or tucked in. I need that in-between look where the waist isn't high and the tops aren't tucked or cropped . Lol - not very interesting, but it's my reality . I've decided to drop the whole pursuit of them because by June (or sometimes earlier) jeans are gone from my closet until September anyways.
