Irina, thank you. I’ll look into it.

Lisa, I love this little tote. Actually, a tote with short handles and a long strap that zips shut is my favorite style of bag.

Angie, thank you. I think the sunscreen plus sweating caused the tarnish. Gold doesn’t tarnish. I have some gold jewelry. I should get it out and see what I have. I haven’t worn it since I went grey.

Here is the small tote and a giant LE tote I bought 25 or 30 years ago when I went to Wisconsin for a seminar. We use it to store tote bags!

Wooohooo! You're rocking this outfit, JAileen, and LOVELY to see you in person again :)

The bag is a fabulous complement to the striped pants! Soooo summery, and with a nostalgic nod to my preppy gene.

I have no answer for your tarnish question, I'm afraid. I wear sunscreen, necklaces and light tops all the time without a hitch. Granted, I'm wearing gold. Could that be it?

No thoughts on the jewelry issue , but now I want a Lands End tote with that strap ! That’s a brilliant idea and looks great ! Low 90’s in the morning ? I would pass away .

I recently started wearing silver jewelry again. I use Hagerty Silversmith Polish for cleaning and (hopefully) tarnish prevention. Got mine on Amazon.

Carol, thank you. I thought the sunscreen was dry, but I did get a little sweaty.

Suz, I’m glad you approve. I just love railroad stripes. It’s funny, a week ago it was cold, and yesterday it was pretty hot. I really can’t give up sunscreen. The sun is intense here and I’ve already had several suspicious things removed. Luckily, no skin cancer, so far.

Donna, I’ll try your experiment. The sunscreen is Elta MD, which my doctor uses. I thought it was zinc because it contains zinc, but now I realize it actually both chemical and zinc, which is misleading. But it’s not awful to wear, so I’ve been wearing it year round. I use a different sunscreen on my hands, zinc, which turns them a pasty grey. And when we were in Galapagos last year, I wore all zinc everywhere, except for this, on my face, neck and chest because I thought it was just zinc.

Would a realistic test be: A dab of sunscreen on white paper => dip the necklace (maybe near the clasp?) in the sunscreen => rub that part of the necklace on a white facial tissue. I assume you use chemical sunscreen vs. physical sunscreen? I'm trying to use physical sunscreen in places that might touch clothing having stained so much (luckily) exercise gear.

I am chuckling -- what is "heavy denim" to you is "lightweight cotton" to me! Different climates for sure!

They look good on you! Amazed you had to size down -- I didn't. I guess my waist has expanded even more than I thought, oops! But really, it just goes to show you how variable fit is, in all items. It's a wonder any of us ever get anything to fit us!

And of course I love your blue and white outfit. The bag and strap are really cute!

I don't have an answer to the tarnish question. I rarely wear necklaces so even though I am a silver person, it hasn't come up. The necklaces I do have tend to be choker-style rather than dangling.

I'm with Carol on sunscreen, though. It's so ick that I try to get it to dry on me first. But honestly, that is hard in humidity.

I don't know. Sunscreen is a pain for me anyway, so I try to put it on and let it dry before putting on clothing, or being very, very careful to rub it in well under the neckline.

I don't see why a silver neckace would do this. All I would say is, maybe try the same process with a white shirt, and no sunscreen, to see if the same thing happens.

I do like your summery outfit, but I agree--almost any denim is hard when it gets warm.

Yesterday, I ran some errands in the morning, then went out in the afternoon to the dentist. It was in the low 90s in the afternoon, but I thought cropped pants were better for the dentist than shorts. I wore my new railroad stripe Wit and Wisdom Utility crops, a new white sleeveless tee, old navy Vionic flipflops, and a sterling silver necklace and pendant. I carried a newish small natural and navy canvas tote from Lands End, with an embroidered strap from Amazon. I’ve been using it a lot since I got it. I felt pretty good in this outfit in the morning. The pants are made of heavy denim and were a little too warm for the afternoon. I sized down, but the waist was still a bit big, but not too much.

As I was getting ready for my dentist appointment, I noticed tarnish on my tee, at the neckline. The chain had seemed untarnished but obviously wasn’t. I wonder if the fact that I was wearing sunscreen or that I was a little sweaty had anything to do with it. I changed tops to go to the dentist.

I suppose this has happened before, but I wear a lot of charcoal, so I wouldn’t have noticed it. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you change how you store your jewelry? I don’t want this to happen again, so instead of my lackadaisical jewelry storage, I suppose I should get those special anti tarnish bags. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
