Nicole thanks for the laugh this morning. You are so cute and remind me of the writings of Erma Bombeck.
The underware trapped in the inside out pants, now that's funny.
I have always put my foot down at the dirty socks that need to be turned right side out for wash. I don't want to touch those things. The wearer has the responsibility to turn them right side out or they just go through the cycle as is.
Shiny you're right the COH do not seem to shrink, at least aroung the waist.

I do not wash my clothes with any other clothes. I love my family, but they are very lazy. All three of them regularly leave their pant legs turned in on themselves, or their underwear trapped in their pants. My husband takes off his button down shirts by pulling them over his head. So not only are they still buttoned, but there is always an undershirt still nestled inside the dress shirt! I have given up trying to get them to change. I told them all that I will not be sticking my hand inside their nasty dirty clothes to untangle them anymore. If they give me something all bunched up, then that is how it's getting washed. The only exception I make, is I will unbunch socks AFTER they have gone thru the wash, before going into the dryer. I do that because it's a waste of electricity, since a bunched up sock confuses the dryer.

I keep a plastic tub on top of my dryer, and when I see something of mine, I put it in the tub. Then I wash all my stuff in 2 loads--Jeans and cords and anything thick and heavy in one wash, and everything else in the other. I was both on gentle, cold water and hang them on a wooden rack to dry.

The only thing I ask of my family, once in a blue moon, is to do the "laundry dance" (putting the wet clothes into the dryer).

I think the cigarette jeans I tried were different. They had a low rise and had a skinnier leg opening than the high rise skinnies. Or maybe it just felt that way because they were a lot less stretchy.

I'd be thrilled if my mom and I were the same size, especially if she were as stylish as you! I don't understand this "mom taint" at all. Then again, I'm not a teenager anymore.

Tanya, I know what you mean about caffiene! I can drink it but only in the morning. Anything after 12 noon and I get really bizarre (more bizarre than I already am, LOL) and also can't sleep. I hope you sleep tonight!!!

Maya, I'm happy that my kids actually think to help out - even if it's for selfish reasons (wanting to do their own laundry). Also, the reality is, in an absolute pinch I will throw my jeans in the dryer if I need to speed up the process because I have nothing to wear!

And these ARE the cigarette jeans!! Yes, they are incredibly skinny. I just measured, yes, 10 inches in the ankles. I like them best tucked into boots to balance them out. I tried them with my SW chunky booties and it looked okay but I felt self-concious, for day time at least - I might be braver wearing them at night. I think they will look very cute with flats though.

I just measured the mid-rise and they are the exact same as the high-rise (except for the rise), so theoretically, they should fit me. Hmmm. Maybe I didn't wrestle with them enough? Or the high-rise simply has more stretch. I offered them to my DD and she turned up her nose - saying that there's no way they'd fit her on the length. I tried to explain they were skinnies and I hadn't hemmed them, but I guess they have the "mom" taint on them now. :-(

Meanwhile, today she is wearing a pair of jeans that fit her a few months ago but now are sooo incredibly baggy on her, in sort of a hip-hop way. (They took her off the med that made her gain weight last year and the weight dropped right off). I have to say even if the pants are probably 3 sizes to big now, they look very cute on her. She could wear a bag and look cute in anything!

San - when I first get the jeans I'm brutal - I don't put them on the hottest cycle but I do put them in warm water and run them through until they are thoroughly dry. I do it twice, to get all the shrinkage out of them. The COH didn't shrink much at all though, if I recall correctly. At least not width-wise. They were all so long, I probably wouldn't have noticed if they shrunk in the length!

Shiny I also put my new jeans in the dryer just once because I figure somewhere along the line they will accidently go in there and I would rather have it happen before they are hemmed. I don't really let them go the full hot cycle. I try to be gentle with them. Boy your UO example hits the point home.

Can you just put a sign on the laundry room door or tell your hubby/kids not to put them in the dryer? I tell my parents (and brother when he lived here) to just not touch my stuff. If they need me to empty the washer, they should ask me. If I'm not there, put the wet clothes on the side somewhere, but DON'T put them in the dryer. Haven't had any problems so far. Perhaps my family is unusually obedient.

I do not like how jeans feel after going in the dryer. Even if there is some initial shrinkage, I find that they grow and bag out, and then won't retract again.

Glad you're enjoying the jeans Shiny. I am still going to search for a heavier weight. Oh, while I was there, I tried on another pair--the so-called "cigarette" and omg, I could not even move in them. The leg opening was no more than 10" and definitely did not accommodate my upper legs and waist at all. I would have probably had to go up to a 29 just to zip them. I have never had much luck with bottoms from UO. Actually, I think everything I own from there is either a top or a dress.

Tanya, you're much too cute.

I understand the situation Shiny. I am very glad that the high rise ones a re perfect now. I have no kids, my mom lives on a different continent and my BF is more than happy to let me deal with ALL the laundry ( :D) so I have complete and absolute control on whether my jeans end up in the dryer or not :)

( Forgive me if I sound a bit wacky at the moment, a little bit of caffeine does that to me since I normally do not consume any).

Tanya, I always run them through the dryer initially because I figure that at some point in the future someone is going to try to be helpful and accidentally put them in the dryer!! I've had that happen after hemming, and wound up with flood pants. :-(

My kids do their own wash and if my stuff is in the washing machine they'll move it into the dryer to do their stuff. If we are visiting my mom's house she may throw my clothes in the wash without asking me. DH often does our laundry but I trust him - he would never put jeans into the dryer, as he's quite particular (actually he's even MORE particular about laundry than I am).

But the high-rise ones were a tad too loose anyway, so I am happy with how they shrank. The mid-rise ones shrunk way too much!

Oh, I see. Well if you like it that's then entirely different piece of cake. I have found that the results of of putting pants in the dryer are completely unpredictable so I just don't risk it anymore.

I meant give the mid-rise to DD - I like how the high-rise ones shrunk. They are perfect now. I may duplicate to crop the second pair into clamdiggers.

Oh I am sorry to hear about the second jeans Shiny. At least your DD will enjoy them. I never put jeans ( or any pants) in the dryer, not even the first time. I wash them, hang dry them, wear them around the house for a day, and then take them to the tailor if any alterations are needed.

Just wanted to let everyone know, in case you are considering the UO high-waisted skinnies I posted about, I just put them on again after running them through the dryer, and they shrunk A LOT.

I don't need them hemmed - they are ideal scrunching length. I can still zip them up, but they got tighter in the ankles, and they don't need a belt to stay up now.

The mid-rise UO's - I can't even zip them up now. :-(

Since I put them through the wash, I'm assuming I can't return them, so I will likely give them to DD (who will love them, and who needs new jeans anyway since she has recently lost weight).
