I remember my Birks--I wore them to shreds in the early '90s but would definitely wear them again, especially with socks.

Too bad I'm the wrong age and the wrong lifestyle to be a cutting edge trend setter, but you young pups have fun and post lots of pictures.

I'm sure you'll enjoy them. They really were that comfortable!

I wore that look in the early 1990s, only with lumberjack socks rather than pretty feminine ones. Brings back memories. :-)

I wear socks all the time, but you can't see them. In fact, the main determining factor for the frequency with which I'll wear a shoe is its ability to be worn with socks. A sock makes any shoe much, much more comfortable! So I find I wear short boots all the time, because of this. I have a closet full of beautiful shoes that mostly need to be worn barefoot or with hose, but they get a fraction of the wears that my booties do.

The exception is sandals -- those tend to be comfortable without socks, and look far better, too. I never did warm up to the idea of strappy feminine sandals with pretty ankle socks. I saw the trend in action a couple of years ago, but it was definitely fringe. Only 20-somethings wearing it.

My DD is wearing this. LLBean cotton ragg socks and birks. My husband tries to get her to change if they are going out somewhere nice (as opposed to the food coop where everyone wears that sort of thing)

Like Angie said, this has been on the fringe for a little while now. I've imbibed in the idea a few times and whispered to myself I was cutting edge because there is literally nothing more comfy on tired, sore, swollen feet, than a pair of cozy wool socks and supportive sandals. I started doing it while camping, where all fashion rules are out the window, but I admit to having worn this look sightseeing in Chicago too.

From DSW this morning-Birks with socks..I am much too old for this as I remember it form the hippie days, and later when men wore them.

But maybe wearing socks with our sneekers again will not be far behind. Now that will be a trend I will embrace. Seems socks have kinda been out for far too long, except for some colorful socks with high lace up boots. And then there was the anklets with heels a while back that never really cought on. you know the look we see in old movies and maybe old family photos from the WW11 days when hose were called silk stockings and not available because the silk came from Japan.

Personally I love socks but only wear them for things like hiking now.
