Hi Nidhi & welcome to the Bay Area! To QueenMum's excellent list I'd also add Gap & H&M for affordable jeans, basics and some inexpensive trendier items. And Athleta or REI for workout/activewear and Old Navy for cheap basics. You also might want to check out Anthropologie (they are having a sale right now so you might be able to order online and ship to your new place). I love this store--they have a lot of multicolored/patterned clothes that are more "exotic/global" looking than the usual everyday basics. Coming from India, you are probably used to bright colors and intricate patterns. Definitely an acquired taste though...I love it, but it's hit or miss...there's a lot of stuff there that looks super fab, but there's also a ton of stuff that can look pretty crazy, frumpy or baggy so you have to be selective.

We should do a Bay Area YLF shopping meetup sometime! I thought there was a thread about it but I don't know if it ever happened!

Thanks for the reply Queen Mum.
My organization does not have a dress code so I am not planning to be dressed in very 'strict' formal wear. I am not very adventurous when it comes to my dressing- but I am hoping this move to a new country gets me out of that rut. I want to try out new colours (I usually stick to blacks browns and greys) and new silhouttes (other than the safe and ones) so I am ready to experiment.
However, the most important factor for me while choosing clothes off late (after I have had my baby) is that it needs to be fuss free, crush free and should cover up all necessary areas while I am active with my toddler.

Hi Nidhi! Welcome to the forum and a big welcome to the Bay Area. I hope your move goes well.
It might help us if you tell us a little bit about your preferred style and how you want to dress at your new job.
Honestly, I would suggest that if you have time when you get here, head to the nearest mall and browse the stores to get a feel for the type of clothing the different stores carry. Off the top of my head, I'd suggest: Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, New York and Company, Macy's, Nordstrom, Banana Republic.
For casual weekend wear you might check out Kohl's and Target.

May I ask which part of the Bay Area you are moving to? There are several of us here in the Bay Area and perhaps someone can point you to a good mall near where you will be living.

I am moving to the Bay Area from India in a couple of weeks. I will be starting work in a couple of months in the IT industry so will need to restock my wardrobe. Can you please point me out to some good and affordable places to shop for workwear and casualwear? I am 30 and have a 16 month old daughter so I am looking for sensible looking but interesting clothes.
Thanks in advance
