Welcome back.

Growing out your bangs is a great idea, Scarlet. More sophisticated.

Loving the scarf, and the whole outfit. You are casually chic and sleek.

Astrid, Janet, and Suz, thanks so much for the validation. I took the tags off everything so the pondering is more academic at this point. I will almost be happy when the weather gets colder so that I can enjoy the sweater more.

RoseandJoan, that is a topic I have been think about lately too, and how ironically I find the gear elements almost too complicated to wear because often they demand a contrasting feminine or dressy element to make them look fashiony and not just geary. I am glad I found a combination that works for my lifestyle and for fashion in your eyes

Yes scarves for colour, texture and warmth. Great idea.

I have been pondering myself lately how fashion has moved much closer to gear but remains miles apart. Fashion trainers, a sassy sweatshirt and jeans are perfect for MOTG. I like your thinking.

Scarlet, you look amazing, and I love the sweater and scarf. Very fun and perfect for MOTG. I think you are achieving your goals for sure. Sometimes the "cheaper" part is the toughest (oh, how well I know that...) but this "scarves for colour" idea should help.

I love the cozy sweater on you, and the scarf approach is so smart. You're looking fantastic. I love your hair straight and wavy -- you wear both equally well!

You look amazing, Scarlet! LOVE the new sweater, it looks so cozy. The scarf is great too, the colors are lovely. Your plan for your new style direction sounds good to me. And I think the Sienna Miller hair cut will suit you!
It's good to see you again.

Dear Fabbers, where to start?

I am just going to jump back in where I left off more or less, which was trying to define my new mantra, a sleeker, chicer, cheaper me. Well, it is going well with a qualification on the cheap part. I have been through so many sizes in the last year due to having my baby, and every step seemed to require some shopping. By now I have landed pretty close back to my old figure, so now all that remains is defining my style direction.

Today I am feeling both elated and guilty. I have taken the day off work. I got my hair cut--I finally decided to grow out my bangs because I cannot seem to stop my hairdresser from cutting them too heavy and straight for my face. I decided I am going for a Sienna Miller inspired look, long bangs, wavy layers, although in the photos my hair is flat-ironed, that is something I will almost never do. I went out shopping for myself looking for a cuddly cable-knit sweater like I have been for a year now, and in my most typical Scarlet fashion went off the map and bought this teddybear textured turtleneck instead. The very energetic saleslady talked me in to a coordinating scarf and socks as well, her argument being that it is a nice way to add some color when I feel like it, and suggested wearing dark grey jeans with the sweater to set off the color (not that I have those), and oxfords to show off the socks. I thought that was a very nice idea. Maybe someday I will find my brogues. But jeez, I must look like a live one to these people.

Anyway you knew I was a scarf lover already, but I had a personal epiphany lately, which was that sometimes it makes more sense to buy a scarf in the colors or patterns I like than to buy a top because that way I can get by with fewer tops that are more basic, and also because I can only wear a top one time before washing it, whereas I can wear the scarf day after day and enjoy the colors and patterns that I like. I know this is some version of advice that is repeated ad nauseum (wear basics and change the accessories), but it’s just finally become concrete and useful to me, and cheaper (since scarves are cheaper than tops), which was one of my goals.

I apologize for not participating in the discussion as much as I would like to. I chime in where I can and will continue to do so.

Okay, and for my final wordy ponderings, I just tried on my new goods trying to figure out how it looks with some different footwear. I’ll be the first to admit that this may be boring dressing in terms of photo sharing, but I’ll still just put it out there. I think my new direction is more understated, but trying to wear nice fabrics and cuts. I would love to hear your feedback.
