I’ve noticed that for pictures, shoes are sometimes laced in a tidy but unusable way. For those I automatically relace. But as a caution, some boots have laces that look like they are just being tidy, but aren’t at all usable. Instead, they have zippers. For regular shoes, I just lace conventionally. The articles are interesting. In any case, they’re your shoes, you can do what you want.

susieq....thank you so much for the lacing link! I have constant shoe fitting problems and this may really help. Also...for those of us with wide feet I have just found "SoleBliss" shoes for wide feet and those with bunion problems. They seem to be the answer for me. Sort of pricy but I would probably pay anything for comfortable shoes!

Gosh, I never imagined that lacing was such a big thing! I just thought you picked what aesthetic you like and went with it. I didn't realize that it could change the way the shoe fits...

I would have thought that pic 2 was laced incorrectly too. It looks as if someone started lacing one way at the bottom but then forgot what they were doing and switched to a different way halfway through.

I don't think they are "wrong" per say, just different. In the UK its common to see the straight bars across but those are even harder to tighten. I think it all depends on your style and also your foot shape. Everyone has different preferences. My current vejas came totally unlaced and I laced them up similar to your picture. They are actually a little big, maybe even up to a whole size too big (probably the style runs big) and they tightened up no problem. Stay very secure on my foot. I have very slim ankles too so need the shoe as tight as possible.

Oh my! I only recently learned about lacing techniques, while searching for hiking shoes! I can't believe it took me this long!

I am not sure what was "wrong" in your examples, Always Trying, can you explain? I do notice in pic one the upper laces are what I learned to do with my new hiking shoes, which were perfect elsewhere except my heel kept wanting to escape in the back.

Angie you need to do a post about lacing!

Very nice sneakers. I am sad about the returned ones as they were such a pretty colour.
The 2 lacing articles are really useful!
Thanks for starting the thread!

I have a high instep, so I lace my shoes like the directions for “high arches” in the article below. If I don’t do it this way, the tops of my feet hurt.

Cute sneakers
Actually there are lots of different ways to lace sneakers-and what method you use depends on what kind of fit/and or walker/runner you are. Learned this from a running shoe expert.
But if your interested

You’re more conscientious than me - I don’t think it would even occur to me to relace before I returned! In store I wonder if this is something SAs are aware of and fix, to make things easier for clients? It doesn’t help them sell shoes if people can’t try on properly.

Returning the others posted last week.. These are keepers.. Earth oragins..But they came laced wrong. This is the second time I have gotten sneakers laced incorrectly. Photo 2 is wrong-the laces can not be tightened up or loosened easily when they are laced like this. This is not a problem when trying them on at home, but if trying them on in store would be. I can re lace them, and then if I have to return them I could lace them back the way they came.
