Almost anything is better than throwing them in the dumpster, incinerator, etc.</p> <p>Gear companies have been playing the resale game for a long time. REI is famous for their "garage sales" where you can get used equipment, along with scratch-and-dents, at a deep discount. Patagonia has a buy-back program called Worn Wear; it's an extension of their recycling program, which has been around for a long time.
