Wool seems like a strange material for sneakers but my favorite slippers, Haflingers are made of wool, so why not? In the Fall I purchased a pair of wool sneakers from Rag &amp; Bone. They are supposedly waterproof, although I haven't deliberately jumped in any puddles to check that feature out. They are very comfortable. They have nice arch support if you have high insteps, and the footbed is cushioned but supportive. My feet do not overheat in them. If anything, I think they keep my feet warm without overheating even when it's warm outside. Perhaps they breathe better than leather? The merino absorbs moisture and breathes in such a way that your feet feel quite dry when you take them off. I'm taking mine to Florida next month, because I think they'll handle afternoon deluges better than leather or canvas shoes, drying out quickly after getting soaked.</p> <p>Thank you all for the votes of confidence in the cognac Chucks. My new Converse (#1 and 3), for street wear, are a custom leather pair direct from the website. I've never had leather Chucks before, but they fit pretty much like the canvas ones. They'll need a bit of breaking in, but true to my expectations, they're 90% comfortable out of the box, and I adore the leather color. (Oh, the photo in #1 looks slightly different than the actual shoes because I changed my mind about the toe cap at the last minute. I decided I wanted the classic Converse look, after all.)</p> <p>The second pair (#2, 4, and 5) are AllBirds. My intent is to use them as semi-gear shoes. My workouts are mostly indoors on the bike and treadmill and my feet are neutral and generally unfussy, so I don't need heavy-duty running shoes. These will serve for that, as well as for some walking-intensive vacation days. <b>They are the most comfortable thing I've ever put on my feet.&nbsp;</b>Seriously. These are "forget you're wearing shoes" shoes, even, and maybe especially, without socks. Amazing. </p>
