I know most people have problems with squares but I have problems with oblongs! I fold a square on the bias into a sort of oblong and tie it around my neck or under my collar. I don't mind flight attendant associations, because flight attendants were considered glamorous when I was young. You had to be attractive, well groomed, thin, and have a certain "look" to get that job. And you had to be female! My first flight was when I was 7 and the flight attendant, then called a stewardess, let me wear her hat! I was thrilled. I think smaller square scarves and oblong scarves (then the ends will hang down longer) work best for this.
