It works. You found some key pieces. That jacket is amazing on you. Agree it will play with many dark neutrals, as well as some lighter ones. This has been more fun than I could have ever imagined, with support from you and the rest of the YLF-ers being a huge part of it. "current and fashionable", I love it. And yes you can frame it. Maybe I will too :-) The chinos are a little big in the waist but that's been true for 99% of the pants I've ever bought so I don't even think about it, I just put in a few darts myself. They seem to fit really well otherwise, which is not often the case with pants. I had always thought that pants at Anthro were too slim for me, because a lot of them are, so I was pleasantly surprised. I was quite surprised to find this whole activity to be very liberating somehow. Maybe it's because it's a focus on what looks good and fits instead of "I don't like this about my body".....or maybe it's the wonderful community support. Smittie the jacket sleeves must be scrunched in the picture, although I can see how that is not obvious. They are actually normal length. Windchime hmm maybe will reconsider light blue jeans at some point. Yeah I agree with the bumblebee comment, black and yellow can read that way. I imagine the white top would be a much better choice with the yellow pants as you suggest but I think I'm feeling the darker colors more these days. A blue skirt is a great idea, will put it on my "try" list. kellygirl  yes I am discovering I like the darker colors better too. It's a bit of a surprise to me. Jaileen that dress I tried is a very lightweight knit fabric (almost like t-shirt fabric) which feels cheap like it won't last long, and shows every lump and bump...also the neckline is just so blah. Those sentiments are from trying it on, maybe not so obvious in the photos. A more saturated color would probably be better, and it does come in a brighter print, which I just posted as an additional find. However that won't change the fabric or neckline. Thanks for the link to the other dress. I have never worn something that loose and unstructured but I'm glad you suggested it I should give it a try. Kiwigal/Sally agree that a darker or more saturated colored dress would be better. BrieN - I commented on the other thread that I did try the tweed jacket with dark jeans and it worked really well. I do love that moto style and have an EF brownish grey sweater version that fits really well and I wear a lot in fall winter. Will keep looking. I did not see the parker shirt in the store, but like the feedback that I should look for similar items. It's sold out online in my size. :-( firecracker, great comment about Nordstrom sales and moto jackets. I have not followed their sales all that closely but maybe it's time. And that makes two votes for that Parker shirt, I will definitely look for similar items.  . The jacket and two tops are fabulous, and I agree the tops will be even better with hemming (or ruching--what a great idea for the print one). I also love your olive chinos on you, and they pair so well with the blush jacket. If the fit were better on the jacket, that outfit appeals to me a lot. Does the moto jacket appeal to you? Nordstrom will probably feature some during their Anniversary Sale. The black and yellow outfit surprised me, because I was reading your comments first and then looking at the photos. I really like it. I agree about the tie placement, but otherwise, I like the pants on you, and the proportions between top and bottom look very flattering to me. The Parker bluebell blouse looks like it has potential, too. I really like the tweed jacket on you and think it would be cute with a dark jean or black jean in a bootcut (or even flare!! :)) style.   I agree the fit was off on the moto jacket, but I would love to see you try again with that style.  I like how both the black and white tops have an embellishment on your clavicle--you might continue to look for similar interest on tops.   I see the Parker button front shirt but not a photo of you in it. Did you try it on? I actually think the distressed jeans are cute on you, but I don't know your style, and you have to feel comfortable in them. I agree the lighter print in #2 seems to wash you out. If you coud find a dress in the same shade of blue as is on the skirt of the dress in #3, I think it could look smashing on you! #4 I, too, find that tie detail too prominent. Maybe if you wore the top with darker bottoms, it wouldn't be as obvious. I always worry that I look like a bumblebee when I wear yellow and black together. I wonder how the shirt in #8 would look with the yellow pants? Good for you, trying things that are outside of your usual style! "Retail research" as unfrumped so aptly put it. I visited Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and Nordstrom Rack (thanks Mochi) . I’ve posted fitting room pics here plus found some "find" pics for some of the ones I liked. All inputs most welcome. Not a bad start IMHO. Need to focus more on more dramatic/graphic looks next time. #1 Black print top & light blue jeans. I like the fit and color/print of the top, but it’s a little tight at the hip would have to order up online. I love the dragonflies. Not liking much about the jeans, especially the distressed look #2 Same top in a lighter print. Not liking the lighter color and the print reminds me of PJs although I liked it when I first looked at it. Interesting how you can like a print when you first look at it but not like it when you put the item on. #3 Dress – not liking fit, color, fabric, or anything else. Total blah. #4 Black top and yellow chinos. I like the black top except for the tie at the bottom which hits me at a very awkward spot. If I keep it I’ll have to do some sort of alteration on that. These are the Pilcro Hyphen chinos posted by Janet recently. Fit well, great fabric, but would prefer a darker color. Not sure about the black top and yellow bottoms as a combo. #5 same chinos with a floral top. I'm not liking the fit or the pattern of the top #6 Dark blue geo print top. Too small and larger not available even online. I like the print, neckline and sleeve shape, although if I found it in the larger size the neckline could end up being a bit too low to look good proportionally. Found a few "finds" that are similar #7 Blush leather jacket. Not a good fit but was looking at the color. With my hair color I find that cool blush, bone, and taupe colors can look awful, but this color seems ok. #8  White t-shirt and my own olive chinos. I like the embellishments, overall fit, and neckline/sleeve shape of the top but the fabric is too sheer and it’s kind of uninteresting overall. #9 Jacket & tan jeans. I just posted about this jacket under Angie’s Spring Tweed Jacket topic. The jeans are ok but I still think that cropped/shorter length is going to be tricky on me and I'd want a darker color. …and two others from some spring shopping I did about 6 weeks ago… #10 Green dentelle lace t-shirt . LOVE his color should look for more of it. Lace on shoulders. Need to shorten it a bit #11 & 12 Blue Rose & Olive (that’s a brand) blue print top, also needs shortening, Can’t see it very well but it has a keyhole back. Might try doing some ruching on the sides instead of a regular hem.
