Oh Rachylou its such a shame this all came about over the weekend with no real helpful assistance being available to you. A 400 page manual is ridiculous for a user to wade through.

As for a useful way to wear this device, I do hope that perhaps the suggestions Inge and others offered might turn out to be helpful to you.

Everyone has thought of anything I thought of, but that Useless Pancreas site seems to be really useful. I confess I would order several things and try it all out. The tank tops look very doable, but I wear them under a big shirt anyway.
I sleep next to a CPAP (AKA CCRAP) person and it’s no joke with the tubing and being connected to the little machine, and that is just at night!
Joy has a system, but I imagine it is more difficult to keep exterior carry stuff clean in the bakery.

Ok, I’m really curious how your client, Angie, hooks a pump onto a belt on a dress. Like how does she run the tubing out of the dress?

Ok: today the pump fell out again and came off and hit the floor, just as I was about to leave for work! And the manual doesn’t have complete instructions on how to hook back up! Omg, rifling through my email on my phone for instructions from the rep! They really did not spend the money on user-friendly design. I hope it means it works real good, lol. Ack!

Oh, Rachy. This is stressful and hard to get used to - especially in the beginning. I'm sorry you have to power through :(

You will be the boss of it soon! I have NO doubt. Joy had a similar style challenge, and has come out on top. You are next!

Echoing many of the ideas. As Brooklyn mentioned, Joy accumulated a large capsule of small crossbody bags that she'd switch out to match her outfit. Very successful!

I have a client with an insulin pump. She hooks it onto the back of her pants and jeans with a belt. When she wears a dress - she makes sure it has a belt.

You are going to be trend setting :)

Thanks for all the ideas, ladies! Please keep them coming. I’m thinking I’ll probably need to develop several options… lol to Suz: you know men just put it in their pocket or clip it to their jeans waistband. Much of my clothing is without said sturdy waistband or high-up pockets. Lol! :)

I must say Sewn Adaptive/seamstress is intriguing. I’m not sure what kind of adaptive shops still exist here. Tech has kinda wiped out shops in the Bay Area (you wouldn’t believe the number of empty storefronts).

A badge reel, other pocket clothing/athletic gear is all intriguing (skort, camisole), crossbody… and how could I forget Pinterest! I fall asleep with Pinterest!

I do hope Joy pops up - I know she uses the receiver for her CGM, which is like the pump (I don’t; I use my phone, which is why this is a new-old issue for me).

I AM dreaming about an Apple Watch now. I’ve started a list of questions to ask and it’s on it. I’m a little concerned about battery drain. Right now I have both the pump and CGM apps running, but the pump controls the CGM now, so why do I need two? … and anyways, two apps is killing my battery life.

Oh, Rachy -- this sounds like a major pain.

I read a book proposal from a guy who is using one of these. He waxed on about the technical magic of the thing, but did not say a word about how to wear it. Being a guy, he probably just put it in his pants pocket. Argh.

I am in favour of contacting any adaptive clothing places in your area. I also wonder -- if it works off the phone, can it work off a watch? Probably not ... but that would be much easier to manage.

What about those running belt bags? They collapse to almost nothing. They look like a belt when there is nothing in it. I have one from Lulu to replace an old Nathan one. You could wear that as a belt under your top/apron? Hope that you find something that works for you!

RL - hasn't Joy been along this road? I hope she'll chime in too!

BTW, a crossbody-style gets snagged on lots of things: doorknobs, newel posts, branches.

An interesting conundrum.

Thought 1: There's a tailoring business called Sewn Adaptive in Pasadena CA that specializes in disability adaptations. Not the Bay Area but apparently they do online/mail order work. Custom tailoring might be overkill for what you need, though.

Thought 2: Would it work to attach a fabric pouch to one of those retractable badge reels, then clip/snap/pin the reel onto the bra somewhere? Is that too much bulk?

Not sure if something like these would help? I can vouch for the brand being comfortable and good quality.

No brilliant ideas, but sending hopeful thoughts. Also hoping you get good results from it.

I like Brooklyn’s idea as at least one option, or riffing on it to think, what’s the “ ergonomic” location, where the weight of it is setting in a good spot. But tubing is an issue too. Maybe a camisole or “ singlet “ with a pocket?

A more specific internet search might bring up ideas from other users. Or even Pinterest for “ hacks” , now that insulin pumps have been around for awhile.

Where is James Bond’s gizmo- maker when you need them?

Oh Rachy, I’m sorry. Could you wear it crossbody style, on a strap like a handbag? Not as restrictive as a belt. So that it sits on your upper hip? Make it part of your outfit, like a tech bag.
