I think I'd try collarless coats in this style.

I don't care for the rounded shoulder silhouette. I think it make the coat look like it is too big. I think a petite woman in this style would look like she is being eaten alive by her coat! LOL

I have not seen one single photo of anyone in this new ovoid coat style who I thought looked good *because* of the coat. Maybe despite the coat.

I'm 5 feet tall and I would wear the first light blue one but in black (and yes I know they're never shown in black) in order to showcase the avant garde line. The good thing about that light blue coat is that when someone tired of it, it isn't so hard to slim down the outer line of the sleeve and have a nice ordinary coat.

I think the short boxy jackets work fine so long as some slim part of the body is showcased as contrast.

I think it's important that the shoulders fit even if the coat is roomy - that could keep it from looking like we're just wearing the wrong size.

Hey Diana,

I've been having some doubts about my bodyshape. My first assessment was that I am/was an hourglass/inverted triangle. But I've been re-thinking that... I'm not so sure my shoulders are truly wider than my hips. (What's your take based on my WIW?)

I don't mind shoulderpads (you can take the girl from the 80s, but you can'tt take the 80s from the girl... hehehe), so even if the round shoulders might not be that flattering (and I agree with you all here that they are not), I might still feel good in a coat with a crazy, bolder shoulder line.

I tried, though, a similar cardigan to the one you suggested. It was cropped, and that was a no go for me. The croped plus the collar made me feel like a sausage.

I know what you mean. I will be avoiding these coats for myself - too long, too boxy, and too rounded in the shoulder is all bad for my petite, pear/hourglass, and already round shouldered frame. Of the ones you've shown, I think only the Zara one has potential, because it is pretty cropped so would be less likely to swallow a petite up, plus you might still be able to see waist/hip definition below it, and the shoulders are not so round (round shoulders is more my issue than yours though, I guess).

I am wondering if a knit fabrication like an oversized cocoon cardigan might be a better way to get this vibe. The knit fabric is softer and drapier so it wouldn't be quite so boxy. It would also not be as dramatic though.
Like this maybe:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/vi.....s-_-1_13_B

What Krish said...it is risky. But still worth trying on, just to see. In some stores they may be cut better for petites...proportions will be key.

Wearing a sofa? LOL... I agree, specially the light blue one seems very sofa-ish. But, hey, that just adds to the super comfy feeling.

Those silhouettes appear quite exaggerated to me, even on the models. I think one can take inspiration from the fluidity, but make the proportions work IRL. I am 5'7" and some of those styles would make me feel I was wearing a sofa all day. Just too cumbersome, to say nothing of flattery.

Ha! Jurocha, they remind me a lot of what was in in the eighties. I wore them, despite being petite, and it overwhelmed me. I don't know if I'll go there again.

But I sure enjoyed the volume and room! Heels mandatory.

Hey fabbers,

I've seen - we all have seen - the new outwear silhouette for Autumn/Winter... it's relaxed, oversized and clean (even if still quite bold, IMO). I selected here a few pics to clarify to which sillhouette I'm referring:

http://www.glamourmagazine.co......-number=23

http://www.zara.com/at/de/look.....Newsletter

http://www.hm.com/at/product/17373?article=17373-A

Although these outerwear options seem super comfy (and I am quite attracted to them), I am afraid petite frames can't pull them off: the collars are too big, the sleeves too wide and I guess they have a high risk of "swallowing" a petite. What do you gals say? Do you have any tips for petites wearing oversized clothes?
