And a welcome from me too. I see a long-waisted rectangle with pear shaped tendencies.

Hi Cricket! I think that you're a rectangle with pearish tendencies, because you seem very narrow throughout with a very well-shaped backside. And I don't know what you're talking about when you say you're "not svelt;" you look so graceful, ESPECIALLY after three kids!

Thank you for the replies! Thanks, Nicole ... gotta love screen names, huh?

Imogen, I like the idea to highlight the bust and the knee, bypassing attention to the middle. I do seem to fuss with my clothing if something draws attention to my thicker middle.

About bras, you're right I'm not wearing the best bra, just a Target one that comes in half-sizes. Nordstrom is about 3 hours from me, so its not something I've done. Also cost! But I understand the benefit.

About cost, I am a SAHM/homeschooling mom with three kids, and little extra money. My favorite store is <gasp> Goodwill, where I find great Banana Republic stuff for cheap.

It sounds like I could use more input here on body type. I guess I was right to feel confused on it! Thanks everyone.

Hi Cricket, Welcome! Love your name, btw, very preppy!

I think you are pearish because the side photo clearly shows you've got a booty goin' on.

Since you've been lurking for 2 years, I'm going to jump right in with a potentially brash comment. Are you wearing the best bra you could find?
It may be from the flash reflecting in the mirror, but I think a bra fitting is in order. Get those girls up there, and you're waist will suddenly become more prominent.

:) Thanks for taking the photo plunge--the first one is always hard to do.

To me you look rectangular (in my book anyway), your waist is not larger than your hips and bust, but you don't have a defined waist.

What you need to do is not draw attention to your lack of waist, no tucking or defining with belts. Keep it smooth and simple over your tummy.

Look for tops that skim without clinging, but that are fitted to make you look like you have more of a waist.

Don't end any tops shorter than your hip bone, otherwise you'll look boxy.

Avoid pockets and detail on jackets around the waist and hips and thighs.

I like to think of it as put your detail and interest above the bust and below the knee, keep the middle section of your body plain and simple and free of interest.

Hello! I have been reading YLF for 2 years and finally worked up the courage to post two (headless) photos. Please help me figure out my body type. I have broad shoulders, a bit of a tummy after having 3 babies, and a rounded behind. At first I thought apple because of my belly, then I thought rectangle because everything seems pretty much the same width but after reading Angie's description of rectangle, I am no where near as svelte as those examples!

Here's two photos, front and side ... Thanks!
