Just chiming in to say I feel your pain as another person with short wavy (not curly!) hair. It can indeed look “squirrelly” to use your word— and without the length to hide it, we can’t put it up in a ponytail! Bad hair days can be depressing or hilarious depending on mood.

Looks great! When my stylist does something different, I always ask her about product and how to recreate. I'm not good at figuring that stuff out on my own.

Much better! It does take some practice to get a look you like and a product you like but I think you are well on your way. I am also interested in that paste, my hair likes to smooth out but I like a piecey-er texture.

I think it looks great! Weird that she would comment on your hair being wavy, not curly, since your hair looks even wavier than the inspo pic.

I have wavy hair too and also struggle with the inspo photos (finding a photo that matches your level of wavy is tricky!). But I do have a few products I like: KMS Molding Paste or TIGI Catwalk Curl Amplifier for when I'm blowing dry, and either John Masters Organics Salt Spray or Target Coconut Sea Salt Spray for summer air-drying (it helps the waves become piece-y and not frizzy).

Thanks for sharing the products! I'm not familiar with either but am really interested in the texture paste. Is it a thicker/heavier paste/cream or lighter like mousse or oil? I'm also jealous/amazed that you get such awesome volume with mostly air drying! Yummy That process you describe sounds perfect for the look you're after. Using goo on dry or mostly dry hair definitely helps with that piecey definition.

Aida, she used (I think - the bottle is the same) Redken Curvaceous Curl ringlet lotion and then Pureology Mess It Up texture paste at the roots after it was mostly dry. My bangs have always been squirrely and uncooperative no matter the length.
She dried the roots and bangs, then let the rest air dry (helped along by sitting under a dryer to speed things up)

Carla, I did like the Deva curl but have only used it twice. I need to experiment with how much to use.

Lisa, thanks!

La Ped, she would have been happy to go shorter right off the bat but she knew I was nervous about it ;)

Janet, thanks, I’m pretty happy with it - just so I can replicate it.

Looks great! I've always found that hairdressers need to be pushed to go shorter, and then shorter again. It makes sense though; you can always take a bit more off but you can't put it back on once it's cut!

Very like your inspo now! I quite like the shorter 'stacked' back. Did you like the Deva Curl product? I have 2 curl enhancing products that I use depending on my mood. They both result in a different type of curl/wave. There is also a duo of products I use when I'm going for a straighter look.
Different products is one way to change things up without too much effort.

Follow up to my frantic hair post last week....
These pictures are after a ‘fine tuning’ appointment with my stylist today.
She texted yesterday to see how I liked it.

#4 is the inspiration pic.

She shortened the bangs and brought up the back some. I’m MUCH happier with this. Last week she blew it all out fairly straight and it just wasn’t flattering at AT ALL.
She felt I was trying too hard with my styling - “your hair isn’t curly, it’s WAVY” and was a little put out that I used a product, Devacurl, she didn’t recommend. That’s on the salon though, she was off Friday and they didn’t tell her I stopped in.
So, I hope I can get close in recreating this!
