Love the outfit in #1 -- Now you're rolling! I actually like the high contrast look in #3, as well. The necklace is a great touch -- it frames your face.

Thanks Joy. It is forcing me to experiment and there are loads of new options that work which is fun so am keen to try the colours you and Angie have offered up... I will no doubt be doing some WIWs as I sort through this. Glad I made the change though as others have said... Has anyone else seen Going Gray and Looking Great site? It just has dawned on me s I write this since I havent looked at this site for ages, that I am merely in 'transition'. Its not just the colour its about perspective and shifts in construction of self! So THAT is what has been niggling me - can smile and enjoy the journey - thanks for listening - it wasnt just a leopard skirt after all... And interesting that my daughter has just told me that is not me... she just doesnt know the new me yet!

I've had this same experience when my hair that was once dark brown is now taupey grey. Colors I could not wear before like black and light grey and tans now look great. I used to wear more earth tones but now need clear color. From dark reds to bright tomato, hunter green to citron, navy to cobalt, although navy isn't bad. Other colors like salmon, coral and turquoise have stayed favorites. Have fun with it.

Oh! This will change up your colour palette for sure. I like where you were heading with the cognacs, and adding grey and white to the black. You might like to add mid tone blues and purples too. A blue red and burnt orange.

The first outfit is most definitely on the right track! You are right that the colors and styling are working for you. Even if you end up with different versions of these - it suits you.
The other two may be too dark but it's also that your body is hiding a bit in too much structure while in outfit one, you are not. I hope that makes sense.
I have a similar body type (and still trying to figure out how to get new picture format set up here to post pics) and I think when I hide everything, I don't look my best. Counter intuitive I know.

I went from blonde to brunette, and I found I could wear many of the same colors, but there are a few that used to look really great on me, that now only look 'ok' and some that used to only look 'ok' on me, that now look great! (if that makes sense). You'll definitely want to play with some different colors and see how they make you feel now.

I sneaked a shot in the change room - think it took a fat woman in the outfit but it looked ok (I was trying on for an hour so had sorted down to something I thought looked ok). The other photo was from my morning SYC with black and my new black pants for work (I know I am not small yet but had to get new black pants for work as the others were falling off - small yeah!! with more to go)... Anyhow these were my two fave outfits from a day of trying on. one in my blacks and one in the new colours. Along with my few blues and reds I think I could get a fair bit of mileage out of this. I can take in the skirt if I reduce, the knit will work for a while and the jacket is pretty firm now so hope will last a bit... Claire, the last one is me trying to replicate your Chanel look from a few weeks ago ^_^ I think I will try a different jacket though...

Jen, the outfit you described sounds just PERFECT for you! I love the idea of a metalic jacket. Since my hair has been changing I've noticed that mixing in some light neutrals really helps soften my black wardrobe items. Many kinds of animal prints are stellar at being a catalyst and bringing in the new light neutrals, while tying them into your other, loved colors. Can you try this outfit on and post some pictures?

LOL at "eyes stayed the same". I have changed my hair colour over the past 6 months to a brighter, redder version of it's former self and I think it has changed what I wear slightly.

I am on Team Low Contrast, but am finding that now I have a higher contrast between my skin, eyes and hair I am actually feeling comfortable with some higher contrast combinations. I am still drawn to the same colours, but am more tolerant of brighter shades.

It sounds like you are in the middle of a bit of a personal transformation, so maybe part of your dissatisfaction is that your clothes are not quite aligning with your new vision of yourself?

It does seem that haircolor change could lead to adding other new colors to wardrobe. The outfit you tried on is very chic - love the sound of the jacket.

I am brunette but when the shade changes ever so slightly, I notice that colors work better with hair. Mostly it comes down to a warm/cool thing for me.

I have decided that my bubbling dissatisfaction with my wardrobe is down to a total shift in my hair colour - I have gone from a dark brunette with blue eyes to white/platinum hair (kind of silver and gold subtle highlight) (eyes stayed the same!)... I have always loved black, navy, charcoal and brights and have been pleasantly surprised that they still work overall maybe cos of my eyes which pop more with the white hair... But yesterday I did a recreational try on of a cheetah skirt, a palest cream/tan metallic stripe knit and metallic biker jacket (yep been mooning over that for a few weeks)... I just went - yep that is what I want to look like. I suspect I need bookend shoes as well... Anyone else experienced the same or have any insights? I figure if I lash out on that outfit I can mix it into my existing blacks, brights and whites while the weight is slowly coming off or I will feel too horrid... Photo is the store promo of similar...
