I agree about mixing your highlights with low lights,it can give hair a lovely depth and looks more natural than block colour. You are lucky to have thick hair.My sister in law who also has thick hair recently got a just above chin layered bob with fringe and herhairdresser gave her an undercut which you can’t see but makes the bob sit beautifully.

Sal, YES! We have fun crossover :)

I've found that my natural colour hair is softer than before, and in lovely condition. It looks and feels healthier, which particularly struck hubs Greg! I think you can achieve the right amount of warmth and lightness with darker highlights. My guess is that it will bring out your eyes! It will look smashing and chic! Ravishing.

Back again - had a hectic day or two!

Thanks Angie - I love your inspo picks and there is some cross over! I think you are less lazy than me with your hair - but I am going to pinch a couple of these for my hair pinterest board. And I could go darker, I like some warmth but I could be closer to my natural colour....

Thanks Suz - I agree with you! My stylist knows my slack tendancies and my hair. I do have a cowlick at the front which also impacts a few styles...

Stylefan - you are right re bangs and maintenance....I am lazy.

Brooklyn - the humidity makes such a difference. This week with crisp clear days my hair is much improved on last week.... I am feeling the pull to something a bit more distinctive at the moment.

Thanks Lily.

Nikki - I like these too but they aren't me. I will admire them on others.

Joy - I like that pic - that's the stylist blow out. I wish I could do that:)

Jenava - that's a good idea....definitely open to a page boy. If I could rock it in 1979 why not in 2022. And it looks awesome on you. Soft but modern which I think is your vibe. I'd like something that's a bit more of a statement right now.

Sorry, haven't studied the entire thread but wanted to chime in because I recently got my hair cut in a page boy and I LOVE it. It's very lightly layered at the edges. I can straighten it or put a little gel in it and let it air dry (or use a diffuser if I want it curlier and have the time). I love the 70's funk it brings. I thus have long bangs, but as they grow I just sweep them to the side, no fuss no muss. Because the cut has gradual length change between the bangs and the rest of the hair it works really well. It is too short to get into a ponytail except for the very back, but headbands are fine for me. Here is a screen snip of a good hair day. (-;

Thanks Jessi - yes I agree!

Jaime - I don't think I want to go long, my hair can overwhelm me and I end up tying it back all the time.

Rachy - I only blow dry upside down and that's about it. I don't have curling irons or straighteners. There seem to be all sorts of air wraps and brushes and tools now and maybe using some would help my cause!

Thanks Suntiger

Bijou - great inspiration. I like that style on Princess Diana too- I am really open to going short as long as I could stay blonde!! I don't have the right shape face for a really cropped pixie but I could do this!!

Thanks Cat2 - I don't know that I want to go long. I always feel more like me with short or mid length hair....

Thanks Irina - I want different ideas and opinions. I do love a chin length bob but I sometimes wonder if it is the right thing with my square jaw.

Janet - humidity plays havoc - the rain has finally stopped this week and my hair suddenly looks much much silkier and better. I like your shag, and have toyed with the idea of getting one.

Thanks TexStyle - I liked this one too- thanks! Your hair looks great here and love the pic with the guitar.

Will be back with more later!

I’m not in favour of a fringe. Too much maintenance. Too hard in the humidity.

I like Angie’s inspiration pics, without the fringe. I think you could do 3 if you wanted a big change. Or go for a shaggier version of what you have now. Or a more angled version of what you have now. I prefer medium to short length on you.

Hair is very personal I think. You gotta go with what feels right for you!

I like the shag with long bangs, but I don't think it is low maintenance. Bangs can go from just right to annoyingly long in one day. I have to cut my bangs every two weeks. I do it myself.
Some long layers might be a good alternative. It still gives the 70s vibe without the maintenance.
The shag is my all-time favourite haircut. It is the 70s flower child in me.

Sal, we have similar hair, similar hairstyles, love the '70s, and are a darker blonde these days. You might find my inspo and ideas for THE BOTH OF US interesting

How about highlighting with a darker blonde? So not as dark as your natural hair colour, but not as light as the highlights now.

I like all the lengths you're sporting here! Each fab in its own way.

I like the idea of a short fringe!

Here are some inspiration ideas. All the ones WITHOUT a short fringe are my own inspiration, actually! I want a long fringe at this point. But I am staying my natural dark blonde colour. I also have thinner hair than you do.

These styles are not achieved with a wash-and-go. They require daily styling with product and tools, unfortunately.

I am not at all an expert on haircuts but you do have gorgeous hair and I love the golden tones on you. My counsel about bangs with hair of similar weight/ texture is that they can bring desired attention to eyes and cheekbones but can also be tricky to style, depending on how they are cut and on humidity. It's all about what will work with your hair's natural texture and growth direction, I think.

I really like your hair in pic #6 but agree that layers could be a fun way to make a change. Your hair always looks so thick and pretty, I am surprised to hear that it is medium thickness. It is nice and long now which gives you more cutting options than if it were shorter.

I think I liked your hair at the slightly shorter style you had like in pic 7.

I'm not sure I'd recommend bangs for easy maintenance. I have to trim mine constantly to keep them the length I want. I also usually straighten mine using a really large curling iron because the curl is tighter on the shorter hair and unless I want to go with a overall quite wavy look, I've found it needs to be straightened (for me at least).

My hair now has turned very light (natural color after years in Texas sun) and is long now other than a very small "bang" in front that angles down to the longer hair. Not going too wide on cutting bangs is my biggest tip. If you have cowlicks, etc. in the front, that complicates things more for styling. Pic is what I spend most of my free time doing these days :-).

I also really like the idea of some longer layers cut into that chin length for you — I think my hair is a similar texture but with more natural curl, and it can go triangle shaped really quickly if it’s not layered to help take some of that volume out of the ends.

I’m realizing lately that my shag cut rarely looks in pictures the way I want it to — I don’t know what to do about it. I get weird little bumps and flips that I don’t love. Part of it is summer humidity. Yuck.

Sal, I have always thought you have beautiful hair. Just for fun, here are some potential inspiration pictures:

Stevie Nicks - possibly too long for what you want, but I like the wash and wear and glam but rock and roll 1970's vibe

Farrah Fawcett - the ultimate 1970's hair! This is her a bit softer than the long style that made her famous.

Princess Diana - I much prefer this style to the longer waves - it looks fresh and less styled

YKK - 9 is a bit wild....that's five months without a colour....

Thanks Carla - I like 2 and 4 here - and yes my hair would do this pretty well.

I like the flip Rachy but I don't want to use curling tongs daily....but maybe?

Following her now LJP - some good inspo there. I have warned my stylist I might want a change and will send her some pics. She's been cutting my hair for about 15 years so knows it well.

Thanks Kelly. Longer is good in that I can tie back for lazy days and sport. I just have to like it enough down to not default to that look.

I like the long layers that Runcarla shows. I think that would be great on you!

I follow an American stylist named Jayne Matthews - her IG is jayneedosalon ( I think - obv can’t check while on my phone typing ) -who specializes in razor cutting 70’s inspired shags . She does really cool things with bangs . I could see one of her bobs working for you.

I like the idea of #3 (curtain bangs, long face framing layers) and maybe after layering let it grow a little longer (so you can tie it back off your neck for summer and sports). I’m including 4 inspo pics - 1-3 for layering ideas, but one (the 4th) for texture. The smooth style isn’t so wash and wear, but #4 is a little ‘sea salt’ texture IYKWIM, and I think your hair might look that way if left to air dry.

Thanks Rachy - I think my stylist could do most styles - she 's pretty experienced.

Sharan - I thought so too. My hair does do the tousled thing quite well. And it grows quickly.

Helena - thanks - I think at the moment it feels wild but too unstyled.

I have to be careful that I don't just want the young face of the hair models...

I love pic 2 or 3 for you ... Pic 1 is cute but a bit too "done" I think for what you described ... I agree the length works on you or you can go a bit shorter; I think you just need that shaping at the end ... Basically what slim cat said
