Can I tell you my BF said, "is that the same person?" We *both* love the new glasses and 'do. Don't regret them. I think you'll grow to love them.
He had a similar update last year from his wire rimmed 15 yr old pair to the newer, thicker frames.

Irene, to be honest, when I first read the title to your post and saw the accompanying photo, I thought it was the glamour shot for the fames by the retailer! You look very hip in them: they accent your face shape and your hair color perfectly. And, I love how we can see the whole of your pretty eyes through them. Funky!

I really like both glasses, and I really love your new hair. I can't wait to update my glasses, when the baby finally arrives. I am also thinking to get a fun plastic frame. (Eyes go wonky during pregnancy, just a word to the wise, so the doctor said there is no point till afterwards.)

In fact I think the new glasses are super cute, way much better than the older ones!!! You really stand out now with them and yor new hair! Gorgeous!
I so wanted geeky frames like your new ones for myself, too, but never found some suiting my thin blond hair, and no contrast face, so I had to have another small metal frame, but with a bit of colour, and have to love them:-).

Irene, I really like your new glasses & hairstyle too! I can relate to not being used to new glasses, because I just got new ones too. And Krista, I have a ridiculously expensive prescription too & so I wasn't thrilled about the large expense either. When my 2 new pairs of glasses came--one pair with Transitions lenses & one pair of sunglasses--I was so happy to be seeing so nice & clearly (old ones were scratched & I needed a new prescription) & wearing more current frame styles.

Glasses are truly one of the few things really really worth investing in. As soon as I started paying $$$ for the frames I really loved, I started feeling happy about my appearance in glasses.

I love the new glasses on you - they have so much more personality than the old ones.

Give it some time, because I think the new frames look great on you! If anything, now you have TWO frames to choose from depending on what kind of statement you would like to make.

My mom got braces when she was in her 40's after years of being horribly self-conscious with her smile. Her teeth are so gorgeous now, and I think her only regret is not having done it sooner. You'll get there too!

(I had braces for about 5 years as a kid, so I feel your pain.)

I love them too! I don't thing they're costume-y at ALL. I think glasses styles are going in this direction (not that I know anything!) but frames have been very small for SO long that it's time for the pendulum to swing the other way. We wore frames at least this size and larger in the 80's.

These are bold and flattering on you. Very glamorous in my opinion and not even that nerdy looking. I love your new 'do too and I hope your stint with braces is not too long or painful. I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

I love the new frames on you. They look more modern and up to date and I think they fit your face well. i have worn glasses my whole life and know that it is an adjustment when making major changes. It is very similar to having long hair then cutting it off short.

Thank you all girls! You definitely make me feel better about the splurge. I am back to contacts but only have been wearing them for a month... I used to wear contacts years ago and my eyes ended up refusing them after a while (two or three years) and I think it is possible this will happen again. Don0t get me wrong, I do love these new frames, they are so fun and a bit costumy, and I think they do suit my facial features.

For the ones asking about my teeth, I miss not wearing the painful braces!

I splurged on frames similar to this last year and held my breath as I paid the $700 for them (I have a ridiculous prescription, so that is most of the cost), thinking the exact same thoughts as you - I hope I don't regret these!!! A full year later and I still enjoy wearing them! I wear my contacts the majority of the time, but it sure is nice to put on nice frames, even if I am just hanging out around the house.

These look fantastic on you and I think you will really start to enjoy them after a while. I find it interesting that you mention you shouldn't have spent the money on them - if you are wearing them every day (or close to it), then they will become worth the cost in no time. If you need them, it is okay to spend the money on them!

Oh, don't regret it. The new ones are marvellous. And if the old ones were that old, chances are the frames were getting scratched and worn-looking.

I liked my old frames very much, but I am very happy in my new ones. It took a while to get used to them, but now I wouldn't go back. Although if I did buy a second pair, I would get another low-contrast pair. It would probably work better with more muted outfits. But right now I'm having fun playing with contrast, which works so much better with the new glasses.

If it works, don't fix it. Just don't. I see now my old small-metal-framed glasses suited me perfectly fine. So yes, they were old (8-9 years old) but they still suited my face.

The new ones are fine too, and look more fun (and do suit my nerdy personality), but they were unnecessary and I regret getting them. Of course I didn't realize it at the time, otherwise I would be around $350 dollars richer and wearing perfectly fitting glasses.

Of course it's still only my fault, but I do blame fashion a bit too for playing around with something as expensive and necessary as prescription glasses.

I just hope these won't look silly in three years time... if they do, I'm really buying a cheap, average looking and smaller frame and placing the glass in there.

PS: I miss my old teeth!! :(

PS1: Yes, I did get another pair before, but they didn't fit my face -they went down my nose all the time- so they changed them for free (I had to pay the difference for the new frames though)
