My only experience with them was a pre-owned dress someone gave me -- it was a few years ago and it seemed really nice but didn't quite fit me right. Interesting that the quality varies so widely. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I’ve seen recent eshaki items from clients and was not impressed with the quality - particularly the fabric, choice of trim, and finish of the garment. The designs of the garments though, are super cute.

That said, I’m glad Jenn had a good experience. Sounds like their quality is consistently inconsistent, like so many other retailers.

Jenn, it's been awhile. To my recollection there was one shirt made out of a sort of ponte material but it was really gross feeling against the skin, felt like stiff plastic. Then there was a maxi sundress out of cotton poplin that fit well and I really liked it (had pockets!). However it started to pill after first wear. I still wore it anyway as it had a loud pattern so the pilling wasn't that noticeable. But when I washed it, it shrank terribly. Not just the hem but also in the bodice -- it became too short. It was empire style and after washing the bodice would not sit under my bust anymore and it was too high in the armholes for comfort.

I’m with shiny. I’ve tried ordering from them a handful of times in the past and have ended up returning all of it due to shoddy materials and craftsmanship. The fabrics seemed scratchy and like they might pill, and the seams were sometimes crooked and not well finished. To be fair, I see this kind of quality in pieces from other retailers too but it’s usually stores like h&m or Zara where I only shop in brick and mortar so I can feel the fabrics first.

I also had an issue with the custom sizing the one time I tried it, in that I ordered something with no stretch and it came with zero ease. Basically I said my bust was 37, and the dress was exactly 37, which as you can imagine in a stretch less garment was less than comfortable. But on the other hand for a garment with stretch you actually do want zero or even negative ease. So I think their cookie cutter customization process isn’t as straightforward as one might think. Which, you know, isn’t surprising - given their relatively low prices you can’t really expect personalized tailoring lol.

This was all years ago though. They might have improved, I don’t know. I do like the looks of many of the items in this new collection! I honestly haven’t looked at them for ages now because I’ve moved past their original retro-pretty aesthetic, but it looks like they are updating their style too! I would be curious to see what these pieces are like if someone chooses to try them!

That’s interesting, shiny! Can I ask what fabric pilled for you? I only have woven dresses from them in cotton poplin and flannel, which have held up well. The one knit item I tried, I sent back.

I'm not a fan of eShakti though in theory I adore the idea. I ordered several things from them and did not have a good experience. Mostly because the fabric was shoddy quality. I.e., rapid pilling. Also high shrinkage.

This was several years ago so maybe they've improved since then but I'm dubious.

It’s pretty easy. There’s a form for your measurements, and each item will list what else can be customized on it (neckline, sleeves, length, etc). I think customizations are about $10 extra, and that part may not be refundable in cash, so that’s definitely a risk. They usually have some sort of deal running for your first order, though, which helps if you’re worried about it working for you.

I have three eShakti dresses, all custom-sized, and I’ve been really happy with them. (They do accept returns, I believe even on custom items.)

I've been tempted by their stuff before. There's so much pressure though - what if I design the piece and then don't like it when it shows up? I've come close to pulling the trigger but then I start doubting all my decisions.

I saw an ad for this and clicked through. Some interesting pieces here. I kinda want the hoodie dress, and the cotton plaid shirtdress looks nice too. And the cape sleeves...
