Vicki, thank you! I love that dress, but the zipper is incredibly sticky (it tends to get stuck on folds of fabric) so I don't wear it often as it's a pain to wrestle into. I'm hoping weight loss will help. I haven't read that book yet, but I've heard great things about it - adding it to my library list!

I love your WIWs, Kari, and always find inspiration from them beyond fashion. You look lovely in the purple dress and white cardi accented with pearls and how thoughtful to honor the bride-to-be in this touching way. I took a peek at your "school colors" and was equally inspired by the sheath-layering you did there! Your comments on the book and the aging canine reminded me of the book by Garth Stein, "The Art of Racing in the Rain." I believe he's from your area, as well. What sweet party favors and that "apple green" may be a great color to play with your "purple." It looks nice with your photos.

Sveta, the Gurgle Pot is that big green pitcher in the last photo. http://www.gurglepot.com/
I believe the company is in Washington state.
Here's the backstory: http://www.gurglepot.com/about.html
They come in lots of pretty colors, are quite sturdy, and make a happy gurgling sound when you pour out of it.

Mona, using mustard as a neutral came gradually. I blame my yellow Fidjis, which I loved so much I started wearing them all the time, then realized that even though the shoes didn't match my skin tone they are pale enough to sort of function as a nude shoe. By the time I added the mustard bag I was fully hooked on this shade as a wardrobe neutral.

Christieanne, that makes me happy that my more relaxed state shows on my face. I'm a lot less stressed these days-finally a colleague was brought in to help a month and a half ago and she is handling many of the issues that were most time consuming. While I'm still busy, it's the kind of busy where I have time to eat lunch, and that's okay with me. I'm still looking but it's a less frantic search.

Kari, this is a great idea. I never thought of purple and white as a spring combination either. I can’t wait to try my purple t-shirt with cardi. Mustard is one of my favourite colours too but using it as a neutral did not cross my mind. I should buy more of mustard clothing items. My mom loved mustard colour and used to wear it a lot. I am staying tuned for this colour combination in your WIW’s.

This outfit rates right up there as one of my favourites on you Kari - I love the bold black and white over the purple and then your pop of orange. Just a beautiful mix of colours. And the bridal party favours are adorable!

I'm a HUGE Vinyl Cafe fan!!! Actually Stuart McClain and guests were just in my home town in April and we went to a live taping - so much fun!!! It's funny you mention listening to it while driving - DH and I often go hiking on Sundays and deliberately plan to leave about 10 minutes before Vinyl Cafe comes on so we can be on the highway and listen to it on our way to our favourite hiking trail. It's become quite a tradition.

Kari I really like this outfit. The hi low hem of the dress is really pretty and brings some interest to what is a fairly classic dress ( classic is a postive to me btw) :).

1) When you live in Huskies country, you learn to adapt. I happen to be wearing my very purple (un-chic unless you are a Husky) UW tshirt right now! And I went to TESC so not my school colors although BFF gave me a love for the UW too.

2) Day sounds hectic but wonderful.

3) You look GORGEOUS in that dress (and the hi-lo hem - it is perfect on you) and the colors are beautiful. I can't remember seeing the dress or cardi for at least some time so nice for a change of pace and worth replicating for a fall back combo. And I think the pearls drape nicely as a special touch.

4) You seem to be in a space of peace and contentment and dare I say happiness? The workplace decision must be feeling positive as your commitment winds down there?
Hope that isn't too personal but it's good to see you so often here and so radiant.

Una, in response to your question ("Are you still doing your "old" colors along with your spicy palette, or have you left some behind now?"): I think it's a bit of both, and I think it's more about the evolution colors I'm wearing WITH one another as I'm moving towards brights and more saturated colors rather than their more muted, earthy counterparts. For example - the burgundy dress I wore yesterday is an "old" color, but the combination of wearing it with brights/"spicy" colors makes it feel new. The black and white cardigan is an old piece, but wearing it with a deep jewel toned purple rather than red or black is new. I'm crazy about yellow more than ever before, but I've had a crush on mustard for about 4 years or so - it's just that I'm only recently learning how to integrate it with just about EVERYTHING, practically using it as a neutral, rather than using it as an exception to my normal accent colors.

But to be honest, it's a very organic evolution and I'm not consistent. For example, last week I still had a couple days where I dressed in darker shades, even in black, beige, and animal print. There's a lot that varies with my mood, and sometimes I can only see the shift after I look at blog posts of my recent outfits, or review my inspiration boards on Pinterest, to see what has changed over time.

Rae and MNSara, I never thought of purple and white as a springy combination until today. I don't know why, it just didn't strike me as something to try out. Then I walked through the flower display aisle in the grocey store, where there were some lovely purple and white orchids, and felt like smacking myself in the head. Of COURSE this is a springy combination! Somehow the black accent color in the cardigan makes it feel more cohesive to my eye even though it's still in high contrast to the purple dress. Anyway, it's one that I love and plan to break out more often. Thanks for your encouragement!

Kari, you look gorgeous! I am very interested in your color journey, since I was so unattuned to a color palette for me until recently. Are you still doing your "old" colors along with your spicy palette, or have you left some behind now? This seems like a good mixture of old and new, but I'd like to know more!

The cardigan looks great with that purple dress and the orange flats are an unexpected but FAB finishing piece.

How sweet of you to dress in the bride's favorite color.

I must be subconsciously paying homage to B's alma mater, because I realized after loading photos on my computer that I was totally stuck in a purple and gold color rut this weekend. Ha! All this time, I thought I was just wearing comfortable shoes! Personally, I don't follow sports - college or otherwise - but I definitely live in Husky country. (For the record, my own school colors were more like this.)

On Sunday I dressed for a whirlwind of activity - an hour's drive for B's niece's birthday party, than an hour back for a bridal shower (for the bride of wedding #3, which takes place at the end of June.) It was a little more hectic than I anticipated, as originally we didn't think the two parties would overlap, but late yesterday evening we found out the birthday party was a couple hours later than what we'd assumed. The weather was actually my favorite to drive in - clear and sunny - but traffic was heavy both ways and bogged me down, so I was pretty exhausted. I had a great time visiting with B's relatives, who I love, and made it to the tail end of the bridal shower.

While I wished I'd had more time to socialize at each of the gatherings, the time in the car was spent enjoyably listening to the Vinyl Cafe with Stuart McClain, one of my favorite oral storytellers that I've got hooked on in the past few years since NPR became a constant presence on my car radio. The featured story, "Mort D'Arthur", was a tender, hilarious, and heartbreaking look back at the life of the family dog at the end of his life. As the "pet" of a much loved senior dog, who is greatly slowing down but is still in good health, I got rather teary throughout the broadcast, but my sides also hurt from laughing by the time I reached the house.

The bride has always adored purple (and I know it's the primary shade for her wedding), so in her honor I broke out the Grecian hi-low hem knit dress in vibrant violet (which she loved.) Again, the spiced orange ECCO pumps came out to play, leaving my feet comfortable and happy. I really felt like a touch of brightness and white was in order, so I draped several floating pearl necklaces over one another and added my graphic floral print black and white cardigan, which still looks and feels excellent after several years. (My first wear of the cardigan on YLF was over three years ago.) I'm really loving the effect of this purple dress even though the neckline is higher than what I'd typically choose, and even though a year ago I don't know whether I even admitted to being willing to try an asymmetrical (or "mullet" hem.) Again, a different silhouette that works surprisingly well on curvy hourglass me. How did that happen?

The bridal shower party favors were adorable - a pair of green "two peas in a pod" salt and pepper shakers that go beautifully with my apple green Gurgle Pot and spearmint striped teacup and saucer set. Sweet!
