I know the feeling! This didn't happen in our master bedroom walk-in closet...YET...but it was totally living on borrowed time. I knew that we were destined for the same thing, because two other less-taxed wire rack closet systems in our house had already collapsed. They were 25 years old and original to the house, and they had gotten pretty icky over the years (those wire shelves get grimy after years because they're hard to clean thoroughly, yuck). One day I heard a similar thump, and went downstairs to our den closet, which is where we keep out-of-season clothes, sports gear, and other odds and ends (wrapping paper, my dad's baseball card collection, etc. ;-)). Everything was in a huge heap on the floor. We had a carpenter friend install a single sturdy shelf and a heavy-duty hanging bar in that closet because it didn't need anything complex. And then the same kind of wire shelf collapsed in our laundry room. Doesn't it feel great to have everything organized and easy to see? I felt like living in our new closet after we had it redone a year and a half ago (our Christmas present for ourselves). We had one of those closet companies come in and do the design and installation, but it's a tricky space with a beam running through it and angled ceilings, so I wanted professional help in maximizing the vertical space. I wouldn't say the individual items are optimal, though. I can look at those photos and immediately see 6-10 items that really need to go. My wardrobe's small enough that (with the exception of gear/lounge/sleep) I'm committed to not tossing anything until I've gotten something to replace it. After returning from our travels and getting past the back-to-school craziness, we finally received and installed the new shelving and supports this week.</p> <p>I'm so excited! Not only do I have my dress-hanging rod back, but we added four new shelves for shoes and folded items (gear, sleepwear, and sweaters, in my case). My husband has four shelves to himself on the other side, along with the the hanging area beneath my blouses. Everything looks amazing! &nbsp;I kind of just want to hang out in there and admire it! </p>
