In 2012 I bought a neon color block dress from AT, and a neon pink skirt, also AT. The skirt is languishing at the moment due to weight gain, but the dress still fits. I keep passing it over but did wear it again just last week. With some hesitation because maybe it's dated now. But I still love that dress, fits well, comfortable, it's a thick ponte knit so perfect on a cooler spring day. Hmm.&nbsp;</p> <p>As to the age appropriate factor, I'm nearing the corner on 49. When neon first hit the stores, my heart skipped a beat, and I was transported back to my freshman year in college, 18 years old, 97 lbs sopping wet, and&nbsp;fond memories of a neon mini shift dress I made myself, worn with wide white hip-slung belt and white sandals.... </p> <p>I wanted to do neon just for the nostalgia,&nbsp;but fretted as well. However you have to feel comfortable and good in them. I do think sometimes something can look good on us but we don't feel like feel like ourself in it. Here in Aus, the neon trend has been heavily marketed to the teens and twenty something's. Neons are all over our shops catering to that demographic at the moment and I think that can create a false sense of what we think of as age appropriate.</p> <p>I think your styling of the jeans is perfect but agree they are limited in terms of colors to wear with them. I was the same way with a pair plaid pants. I had to try them and once I did, it was enough to get it out of my system. I admire your persistence--the last pair was definitely the best, and I think you could definitely wear it like in #7. But I agree, sometimes trendy stuff like neon is really hard to wear enough to get your money's worth before you get tired of them. And about being "too old" for trendy stuff, I hate that but do have to agree somewhat, sometimes when we wear trendy teenybopperish stuff it's harder to pull off without it looking forced. I don't have any neon (although I used to wear it in the 80's when I was an actual teen), but I think if I did I'd start with some accessories like a necklace. Even then I'm avoiding it because I think the neon trend is going to fade quickly. I think it's great that you tried it, though even if you ultimately decided to pass.</p> <p>And BTW I am ROFL at Claire's ho pants story! I went through the same dilemma. I bought yellow and light rose jeans a few times and returned them each time. Although I can 'wear' the trend, I just did not feel comfortable in them at my age (51). I am small (5'2" and 112 lbs.) so I can get away with younger looks. But I just could not see myself wearing them.</p> <p>So I bought a coral/orange neon sleeveless top at H&amp;M, paired it with a matching cami and J Brand capris and went to Nordstrom with my kids for shoes. Everyone loved my top! Three cheers for H&amp;M. That was my nod to the neon trend.
