Hi Anne, I can totally relate. I am an American living in Mexico. Shopping is not the same here. Plus I am on the border between regular and plus sizes so it is even more difficult. I find myself either wanting to travel back to the States where I know to shop or ordering online and paying big shipping fees to get stuff here.

Good luck and let us know what you find when you finally get there!

I agree that is a problem with the Jan sales. I am not too worried about it for summer casual dressing though.

:) well done being so patient! I find the January sales difficult as there is so much stuff that seems to be brought in specifically for the sale. So you need to work to find an actual bargain rather than something that is just cheap to start with in the right size etc. So go well watered and fed, and may the force be with you :).

I don't think so Lynne. Except for items like boots and shoebudgets, I tend to go very budget with my shopping. While there are some low price shops in my town Target is probably the only one that combines low prices with youthful style. I like the younger oriented shops as they have current trends. They sometimes have smaller sizing too. Some local shops' smallest size can be too big for me.

I don't know if these names were around when you were last in Aus, but I like to go to shops like Valley Girl, and Temt. I have had some real bargains at their outlet shops too.

I can fall into the trap of just buying everything at Target and forgetting that all these other shops are around too, and will be there for me in a couple of months.

Yay for Melbourne shopping! I would move there in a heartbeat :).

Anne, it's a shame your local stores don't stock the sorts of things you're looking for? Do you know any of the local businesses well enough to ask them to get in some of the sorts of things you're interested in?

Melbourne shopping is legendary ( not that I have ever shopped there but some people from the west actually fly over for the shopping) That'd be worth the wait I imagine!

Anne, I am in a regional area which actually has quite good shopping but no factory outlets which I love. Trying to hang in there until my next visit to Melbourne:)

For months I confess to reading the SYC threads and feeling a little smug - I hadn't bought anything and I am not even on SYC.

And then summer suddenly hit. Suddenly I needed new sandals - NOW (I have ordered some online)

While the other things on my summer shopping list are wants rather than needs (a new knit dress, a white skirt, a swimsuit coverup (see my other thread) and maybe a top or two, all to be purchased for about $150 in total - and I keep wanting to just tick them off the list now.

The problem is that the sort of shops I like to shop at are not found in the town where I live. And I will not be spending any shopable amount of time in the city until after Christmas (which happily coincides with the after Christmas sales).

Anyone else trying to restrain themselves from shopping til they go to to a location where there is better shopping?
