Column that is a great idea. It did not occur to me. However, I felt the size 4 in regular was actually a perfect fit. I usually size down to petites for dresses or skirts - when I want a shorter length. I usually can't do petits in tops due to my chest area, even though I have small shoulders and am apparently short waisted. I will keep this suggestion in the back of my mind in the future though.

Sorry if you addressed this and I missed it, but did you try a petite size in the AT blazer? The length (obviously) would be shorter.

Traci I like your suggestion! Love the lighter color. Need to see if my Nord has it. Joy I have been looking at Kimono style. One was not sufficiently warm enough but gorgeous (see below) and the other one (black with red) seemed "just" warm enough. I am thinking about for my white, black and red dress. Thanks Column but denim jackets are too casual for my employer. As for the cropped cardi, "been there - done that" (years ago) and now I hate them.
I did get to try on the AT jacket today and it looks, fits and feels fantastic. I hesitated because I think it may be a tad too long for my liking. I am short waisted and it didn't seem cropped enough to me. But I am keeping it in mind. The neutral color and fabric is absolutely perfect for my dresses.

PS--I love cropped cardigans over sheath dresses, too, in case my post suggested otherwise. They lenghten the leg line and can be both powerful and ladylike, IMHO. I also love the idea of mixing solids with prints; the effect is always visually pleasing. Just in case there's a question: I was just acknowledging they aren't a new strategy--no offense intended! Glad to see the sheath dress and topper get so much love!

Maybe I am a little too norm-core, but I love cardigans over sheath dresses. I wear print cardigans over solid dresses and vice versa. Long or cropped, depends on my mood.
Statement necklace and done.

For summer, a kimono style jacket can work over a sheath dress and give you some variety. Also look for lace jackets. Mine are all too old to be in stores now, but you may find something similar. Look at Angie's kimono picks.

I'm afraid I don't have any new finds to offer, but I use the sheath/topper formula a lot, too, and find the following helpful--if they are permissible in your workplace:

-denim jackets: These tend to be cropped to begin with, which is why they appeal to me. I have denim in light and dark blue wash, white, burnt orange, yellow, and turquoise. Dressed up with neutral or coordinating pointy-toed shoes, good jewelry (pearls), and/or dressy scarves, denim reads office appropriate for me

-long cardigans: I recently stumbled onto this formula to streamline a fit-and-flare dress that is not my best silhouette. I have one paper thin and one thick long cardigan I will be experimenting more with this year by coordinating with prints and accessories (jewelry, scarves, shoes)

-jackets from broken up suits, including St. John Knits and Chanel-esque looks. I still struggle with incorporating my St. John jackets becuse they have shiny metallic threads, zips and buttons (rather than tweed, which is more current), but the fit and crop are sublime and the original price too expensive to cull (even though I bought all on sale). I always look for these in consignment shops, too--although I confess no luck as of yet. But just a thought, with encouragement to break up your suits.

-cropped cardis. Yawn, I know. But can you spruce them up with statement jewelry and scarves?

-*I wonder if your black/white bomber wouldn't work over a solid color, such as your red sheath, with black shoes and other coordinating accessories?

I, too, am interested in breathable cropped toppers, (still in a hot phase, so I need some natural fibers) so I will follow this thread. Thanks for asking!

Here are my three favorites from NAS--I like short/cropped/fitted jackets too. No wait--the Rebecca Taylor *isn't* on sale, it just sneaked into my shopping bag while I was bargain hunting.

Thanks ladies. I have one silky bomber style jacket from forever 21 that is black and white floral print that I wear with the white and black sheath dresses. I actually love it, but am limited in what it goes with. I will continue my search, if the bomber jacket is sufficiently dressy enough it will def work for my environment. I like the idea of a quilted style. Bijou, I am gonna check out the JCrew jacket and see if it may work!

This looks to be a blazer I purchased last summer. I LOVE mine and wear it frequently and I don't work in an office. I like the 3/4 sleeve and the fit. The texture is nice but not overdone.

That said, what I don't know is if IS the same, but I hope you try it on at least.

I have this problem at work too, it is extremely hot outside and freezing at my workplace. I tend to wear jackets over my sheath dresses regularly in summer. One of my favourites is the JCrew jacket in finds. I like the navy as a lighter colour to black and like the gold braiding and buttons which co-ordinate well with my gold shoes (also in finds). I also have a white linen blend jacket and a grey cropped jacket that are in heavy rotation over the summer months, all of which are similar in style to the JCrew jacket. For me a shorter cropped jacket works best with dresses.

Don't know if a bomber jacket would be appropriate for your workplace - but there are plenty of dressier, cropped, quilted versions around. I'm pretty sure Angie did a post of wearing a bomber jacket over a sheath dress not long ago.

In the spring and summer I wear a lot of sheath dresses to work (see below). My office/workplace is chilly from the AC and I need a topper for my dresses. I prefer short/cropped fitted jackets/blazer and have worn cardigans in the past (over cardigans for the moment). Has anyone seen the AT Textured Newbury Blazer in person? Would this work with my dresses? Any other suggestions are welcomed. I am thinking a neutral color so as to go with the majority of my dresses would be best. I have a cropped black leather jacket I wear sometimes also, but would like some variety.
