I was drawn in by the insulation, although I have an amazing snow boot already. </p> <p>I wonder about the quality of Cougar (the 6mo warranty has me a bit concerned), as I run my shoes -- esp boots -- into the ground. My Frye's have been re-soled at least five or six times in the 10+ years I've had them...&nbsp; I am not that familiar with Timberland either, I just remember my dad owning a pair of the original yellow ones in the early 80s.&nbsp; Doc Martins were what the cool kids wore when I was in school, but they were too heavy/clunky for me (and I wasn't that cool!). </p> <p>This idea of a fashionable gear-ish boot is intriguing to me. I've always leaned either way fashion or way gear. Long before I ever heard of Timberlands, in the early 80s I was the only kid in grade 3 (Canadian for 3rd grade!) who didn’t have Cougar construction style boots with red laces. I distinctly remember the line up of boots outside my class signalling all the ways I was out of it...<br /> And somehow American Timberlands are now the trend (my 12 yo DD has the original style). This happens all the time in Canada. I used to like the Canadian coffee chain Second Cup, which we had years before we had Starbucks or tons of independent cafes. Their sweet dessert coffees are to my sweetness level, when I want that kind of thing. Then Starbucks came and I spent years trying to figure out which sweet coffees and shakes I enjoy. They are mostly way too sweet for me. I think they are tough-but-pretty rather than gearish. Ordered mostly for urban running around the neighbourhood - I wanted something 3 season that can handle looking a bit beat up from daily wear, so I can keep my dressier footwear more pristine. I have a few pairs and I love them. Be sure they say waterproof. Don’t assume. Zappos is nice for free and fast shipping, but Timberland has a really good selection on their website, and they are very clear about which are waterproof. </p> <p>The one on the left is the classic 6 inch boot, and other two are Nellie Chukka.
