You can probably get away with wearing some 'lighter' versions during the spring and summer as well (I come from Poland and it's been in low 60's there recently, I know people wore hats and scarves in the windy Baltic area.. hard t imagine for me as we've been hit with almost 100F - over 35C in the US...). I second flat or low heeled boots for comfort, they can be worn with skinny jeans, leggings, skirts, dressed up or down :). Make sure you measure your calf circumference, it's easy to buy boots for an average calf as most of them run 14-15" width at the boot opening, if you are blessed with narrow or wide calf, look for stretchy fabrics or adjustable buckles. Me myself, with barely 13" calf, managed to find only one pair of boots to wear with skirts or dresses.. The other ones I have are good for skinny jeans or thicker leggings, so there is no gaping at the top. Or slouchy styles, those can gap and look OK as well.
