Today I wore wide legged navy linen pants with a draw string waist and a linen sweater similar to the one Angie posted. Mine was brown. It is from Espirit. Years old. I have also worn a simple T shirt and when it is cooler I wear a jean jacket as a topper.
I also wear a light weight cotton blazer with a tank top.

My pants are tapered towards the bottom so not completely wide leg. But I often wear a top that I can semi-tuck to hide the elastic waist and ties....

I prefer to wear a longer top with something asymmetric about it, because my wide linen pants have gathered or tie waistbands that do things to my tummy that I prefer not to display! Favourites are a tunic-length blouse with very cutaway sides--so like deep slits, but very scooped-- and a woven tank with asymmetric pointed bottom hem and layers. These are the closest I get to Lagenlook; the wide pants demand something flowy yet there needs to be some kind of structure or bare skin to not overwhelm me.

Although a couple of times lately I have worn my navy ones with a striped top and a belt to create a highwaisted look, plus a topper. I feel very Kate Hepburn, but haven't taken a photo yet, I don't want to break the illusion.

Have you tried a shorter gauzy high-low top in cotton or linen?

Can you put your finger on what isn't working about the tops you tried?

I find with wide leg pants, excess length or volume in a top can be problematic. Sometimes a shorter, more structured top will help with balance and proportion.I have also seen structured tunic styles work with this look. It is just tricky to grab the right length and body skimming fluidity needed. Also, the nature of the fabric paired with linen is important to me. I find some synthetics can fight the season and textured quality of the linen pieces. No quick answers here, but I empathize with the dilemma.

how do you style your wide leg linen pants? I bought a pair in a nice light shade of grey. I have a lot of cotton, linen, etc. tops that I thought would work with them, but am finding I am not hit on anything yet. Was planning to wear them Thursday to a casual lunch. I do not wear sleeveless, and plan to wear either flat sandals or the ones in the photo. It is the tops that are the problem.
