Dee! Welcome and well done. I have nothing further to add because these stylish lasses are so on the ball. But from one Converse girl to another we hope to see more of your outfits on this forum.

Thanks so much for your feedback and suggestions! I'm glad the cardi outfits seem to be keepers since that is what I wear most of the time. I'm working on accessories - I'm so grateful people post pictures here for inspiration. I have recently lost weight so I will definitely be rid of the big pants! Antje, I do love skirts (I will post pictures as they come up) but I have been having a difficult time finding A-line ones for this fall. Thanks again.

Hi Dee, congrats on posting pictures. It's a huge step to do so the first time, but I hope you'll find it helpful - many of us have received great feedback and advice that helped us refine our style.
Without having read the previous comments, and being short on time, here are a few top-of-mind comments:
You're doing a lot of things well that flatter you: snug tops that are great for your smaller upper body; layering tops to get some extra colors into your outfits; bootcut pants. A couple things I'd refine: your pants look slightly or majorly big (especially the grey one at the end) - can you go a size down? The dress I don't think is flattering; the empire waist makes you look short waisted. (This is specific to the styling of this dress, though, since I do think that the teal tunic length top looks good on you.) I generally think you'd rock dresses with boots, so I'd try other dresses that are A-line just not with such a high waist. You'd probably also look great in A-line knee length skirts, have you tried that?

Hi, Dee, I agree with the other comments so far. In general your outfits could be pushed up a notch with another layer on some sort like beads or a scarf or even bracelet, but most of your pieces fit well. The Gap pants in #7 aren't flattering.
Other thoughts are that the light grey color is not flattering to you but the addition of beads or scarf would make it work. Would a black scrunch neck with long sleeves work under the grey sweater dress (#8)? I wonder if the purple sweater dress could be salvaged with a long black (or red) scarf or beads to bring the eye up and create a vertical line. It also might be helped if the sleeves were shortened so that they don't end right at the widest part of your hips. Maybe both problems would be solved with a long sleeved black cardi.

Dee -- thanks for posting and welcome to the forum. And congrats on beginning the process of putting together a fab wardrobe. I'm still in the process myself and really appreciate everyone's advice. I think you'll find it helpful as well.

1) ATL print top and red cardigan -- this is my favorite outfit; it is flattering and the print/solid combination looks very pretty.

2) The sweater dress is a beautiful purple but it isn't the most flattering for your figure. Love the boots and patterned tights -- just need the right dress for them.

3) blue babydoll top -- I think that this is a cute casual outfit; you could dress it up with a scarf or necklace.

4) love the purple sweater; it is skirt length so I'd try it with skirts. If you want to wear it with pants, try a darker color cami underneath so you don't have the stark line.

5) Cardi partially buttoned over a top is a GREAT look on you. I like this casual version -- but you could also dress it up with a scarf or necklace.

6) bright blue JCrew sweater -- beautiful color! I'd add a scarf or necklace that will bring the eye to your neckline and balances out your hips.

7) The Gap pants look like they are too big. Again, I think you need something of interest at the neckline.

8) same thoughts at the first sweater dress

Nicole already commented about pants length -- some seem to short and some seem to small. Otherwise they seem to fit well (except the gap pants). I'd check into getting them hemmed.

Great job putting together some great outfits.

Geneen - thank you for the advice on the books. The In Style ones keep coming up so I'll have to check out the library this weekend.

Nicole - thank you for such a detailed critique and suggestions! I felt something was off with some of the outfits and you have nicely articulated it. I appreciate it. I'm working on my posture (too many years as a student ), accessories, and matching my pants to heel height. The jeans in 1 and 4 are different, and worn with different shoes (flats vs. heels) so I'll try swapping them around.

Hi dee, Thanks for posting the photos. It's always a difficult first step--who wants to be publically critiqued??

First of all, it's hard to say what your color season is because we can't see your face. I'll go thru each of your 8 posted outfits one by one and give my opinion--for whatever that is worth. :)

1. (red cardi/gap bootcuts) I think this sweater is great on you. The detail at the neckline adds a little upper body volume to balance out your hips. I love the shirt peeking thru underneath. The jeans are too long though. I'd either shorten them or wear with a heel. I like your necklace(s), but something chunkier might be good too.

2. (purple sweater dress) I don't care for this dress on you. It emphasizes your pear shape--making your hips look wider than they are. I don't really see any way to salvage this dress--I'd pass it on to someone else. But I do love the patterned tights and the boots. It's a great concept, you just need a better fitting dress.

3. (blue babydoll and JCrew jeans) I like the jeans, and I like the color of this top--but I don't like this sleeve on you. It makes you look like you're hunched over (are are you not standing up straight and tall??) I think a more structured shoulder line is important for you to help balance your hips.

4. (purple sweater Gap flares) Are these the same jeans from photo one?? They look too short? But in photo 1 they looked too long. Hmmmm. Anyway I love this purple sweater on you--I think it would look best with a skirt, sans the cami peeking out. (The cami is drawing a stark line across your hips). It would be a good length sweater for a skirt and it's a very pretty color.

5. (ON cardi JC jeans) LOVE this look on you. I wonder if the jeans are tad too short though. But the cardi/cami combo buttoned ala Shiny is a great look for you.

6. (JC blue sweater ATL jeans) I love the dark wash of these jeans on you. The sweater is pretty but kind of plain. It needs a necklace, scarf or collar underneath, IMO. Love the Chucks though!

7. (Jacob sweater/Gap pants) Pants are way too big on you. Sweater is nice, but needs something similar to the blue JC sweater in #6)

8. (BR Sweater Dress) I love the tights and boots. I like this dress on you. It fits you much better than the purple one.

I am all over this one! I wanted to change my look. So, I read a book which I highly recommend, In Style, and What not to wear. These books have helped me tremendously!! I have gained a few pounds and my bra size has increased so, styles I used to wear no longer flattered me. Now I know how to shop for pieces that really make me look my best.
I did a closet overhaul. If it didn't look good on me, then out it goes and what ever stayed had to flatter me 100%.

I am in the process of rethinking my wardrobe and need some help! I have previously determined that I'm a 'pretty pear' and have been trying to dress better for my body shape. If you could let me know what works/doesn't work, if my tops are a flattering length for pants, and if I can pull off a sweater dress. I also need help with colours - I have no idea if I'm warm/cold, spring/fall and what that even means. If there are any good resources I would appreciate it! I need the distraction as I anxiously await the election results :)

Thank you in advance for feedback!
