I've been really happy with the American Giant items I've purchased over the past six months or so. They have women's items and men's items. They have heavier fleece items and slightly lighter weight French terry items, like the joggers. The joggers, I think are a good three-season weight - maybe a bit light for full-on winter, but great the rest of the time.

Carla - you know who also has nice loungewear (and YES to Roots!) is Anthro . It can get a little overpriced for what it is, but there are some really unique and pretty pieces in their collection .

I like wearing cotton jogger type sweatpants that are tapered at the ankle with 3/4 sleeve t-shirts. And my hubby likes to wear basic short sleeve tee with sweatpants material knee length shorts. We keep our apartment pretty warm and have floor heating so we are usually barefoot. And during the hottest summer days I switch to shorts and tanks because no air conditioning.

Gradfashionista, Stylefan, Torontogirl - will check out Roots! Haven't looked at their stuff in ages.

Since I don't normally wear sweatpants, they just might be different enough from gym-wear to do the trick!

Efbgen - that's my worry! The other day I was in PJ's and robe (9 am) when a lawn care guy rang the door! Ugh!

Lisap - It's the Habs (hockey) or Seahawks (football) in our house - but sometimes it's a bit much...(especially the floresent green)

Suz - if the weather was warmer, this would not be a problem, but since we are on our third season of winter....

DH wears straight leg navy blue sweat pants from (maybe?) LE or Eddie Bauer, I'm not sure...a soft cotton tee with a sweater over top. In summer he doesn't really wear loungewear, and come to think of it, neither do I -- loungewear is really "cozy" wear at our place, for situations like the one you describe, when you're housebound for a while and just want to hibernate in comfort.

I need to replenish this capsule because lately, I've been wearing PJ pants more than I'd like. But here are a few items I do use and enjoy in various combinations with other things. I own a robe, too, but really only wear it right after a shower. I find the sleeves annoying and it is bulky. So if I'm doing stuff around the house, I prefer a cardigan style or pullover style layer for warmth.

I'm laughing . DH's loungewear is a pair of plaid flannel NHL Jets pyjama pants and a Jets jersey - (on game nights), or the pants and a robe on other nights. It gets pretty grim around here during the winter. Mine is not a whole lot better.

My loungewear is Lululemon "still" pants, which have a wide leg and pockets, and imho don't look like yoga pants. They don't seem to have this style at the moment. I also really like their "studio" pants, which also have a wide (but not so wide) leg and look like gear, but presentable gear.

Uniqlo has great lounge pants (both wide legged and jogger styles) that I wear with a tank or cute tshirt and a long flowy cardigan if it is chilly out (which seems to be most of the time this Spring). This outfit is super comfy and I can throw on sneakers with it if I need to go out. When I was a child my mother had a great selection of colorful caftans that she wore as loungewear. She looked exotic and fabulous in our small southern town.

My downtime loungewear are knit pull on pants, turtleneck and a comfy sweater I made that is so pilled and beat up I can no longer wear in public ( but is one of those things I can’t part with because of time effort and love that went in to making it.)
In summer it is a dress.
I rarely wear downtime loungewear except for situations like the one RunCarla presented- a bridge outfit.
I have learned even when home cleaning or lounging to try and look somewhat presentable because when you look bad.... that’s the day your brother in law drops by, the UPS guy drops off a package, the local politician campaigns and the neighbor stops by with her kids doing a school fund raiser.
Isn’t that always the way!?

DH's "loungewear" consists entirely of a pair of grey flannel pants I gave him a couple years ago, plus graphic tees that he used to wear to work but which are now to casual for his current office. Sometimes he wears his robe, or puts an Icebreaker merino hoodie on top (he seems to have a sartorial allergy to plain old cotton hoodies, and will only wear technical ones...). He actually has been on my case to get him the grey flannel shirt to match his pants, which I think is very cute of him to want, so maybe for Fathers Day.

My loungewear selection has gotten more extensive, thanks to being home with a young child a lot of the time. My core is a set of Patagonia sweatpants and hoodies from a few years back, and last year I added a sweatpant/hoodie set from Everlane. The Patagonia stuff is dark grey and olive, the Everlane stuff is blush and black, so it all mixes and matches nicely. I wear my band t-shirts and old graphic t-shirts underneath, since they've stopped feeling relevant to my style otherwise. I'm thinking of trying out a pair of American Giant sweatpants this year. My family teases me about my "designer" sweats but I've always been very picky about sweatpants and find poorly made ones to be so uncomfortable I won't wear them. If the waist, leg bindings, etc are wrong, you won't want to wear them. I spend so much time in my "house clothes" (a couple hours each morning, an hour at night, and more on the weekend) that they earn their keep quite quickly. All of the pieces I mention above are close to 30 wears this year alone.

I also just picked up two pairs of these Uniqlo boyfriend jeans. They are a unicorn for me, because they are jeans that are loose all over without falling down, and I did not need to alter them. Basically, they are as comfortable as sweatpants, but (for me, where I live) look a little more presentable. I'll go out and walk the dog do groceries, etc in these, which I don't like to do in sweatpants. I know you complained about lyocell in denim in an earlier post; I'd always been a skeptic too, but in this case it makes the jeans very soft and allows them to relax into just the right shape (for my body at least).

I generally use flared jersey pants and basic tees and hoodies as loungewear. The pants are actually jazz dance trousers (from Dimensione Danza), they are really comfortable and look good. Most of my loungewear tops come from Uniqlo and often double as standard casual tops ("airism" bratops are my favourite, as they are comfortable, practical, and even look good enough for work under a blazer!)

DH hates loungewear and hardly ever wears anything more casual than jeans (or chino shorts in summer), even during weekends spent at home. He has a pair of cotton track pants though, but only wears them when he feels tired or ill.

I agree with GF that Roots has a great selection of loungewear. All of my purchases from Roots have held up very well.
Currently, in really cold weather I wear Lululemon Dog walking pants. Unfortunately, these are no longer available. They are soft, comfy, loose-fitting pants with fleece lining. They also have pockets.
If it is milder I wear lighter weight Lululemon pants.
On my top half, I wear a T-shirt and a fleece jacket. If it were to warm up I might wear a denim shirt instead of the fleece jacket.
An alternate for my fleece jacket is a long cardigan from Lululemon.

Lole has some great loungewear. I have a nice tunic from them.

Marks has lots of hoodies and joggers. MWW doesn't fit me so I usually pass on that brand. You seem to have good luck there.

I use pj pants that are so nice that they don't look like pjs. I find them in loungewear & sleepwear departments. For lounging I don't use them with the matching jacket or shirt, but instead wear a cardigan, often a long one. As tops I wear anything from tanks and tees to crewnecks and turtlenecks. A pendant necklace or comfortable scarf, cotton or light wool socks, Birkenstock style sandals or ballet flats, and perhaps a bracelet complete the outfit for me.

Other suggestions (for both sexes): corduroy pants, nice sweatpants (long and straight, not tapered), perhaps with a matching tee, flannel shirts (can also be worn as jackets).

Either loose pants and a tee or hoodie - or leggings with a tunic in winter. In summer I have a couple of dresses that work.

I don't like anything too delicate - as I sometimes end up cleaning the stove top or bathroom inadvertently. I have a grey long sweater/ short tunic that is my go to often.

This is pretty casual, but I really love Roots for lounge clothing. Super soft and comfortable fabrics that wash well. They have a number of different cuts for both jogging pants and hoodies, and the ones I bought are slim fit and cropped.

Today after a long walk (it is becoming a daily thing) I would have liked to have had something comfy but nice to change into. DH and I both had wet pant hems. I changed into another pair of jeans, and DH changed into a pair of pants he usually wears to the gym. I would have liked him in something different. It was late afternoon, so just dinner and a couple rounds of 'Settler's of Catan' was planned. We may be home bound this weekend, since a 'weather event' is forecast (ice storm) and cozy is called for. I think we both need a couple of loungewear outfits that aren't gym clothes.

What do you and your SO use for loungewear? What would make up a nice loungewear capsule for either of us? I don't want to resort to yoga pants or other gym wear and would like something less structured than jeans but not as informal as pj's. The shop I want to check out for ethnic wear (loose harem trousers) is seasonal and won't open for another few weeks, (and I don't think DH will go that route!)
