Not quite what you'd expect in rural Virginia, doubleh. Having just recently had somebody mutilate and slaughter some very large, very old snapping turtles here where I live on a small lake in north central Massachusetts, I've been in touch with the authorities. I started with local PD, even though I knew there wasn't much they could do, but I did want them to know about it, so it was on record. From there, I called my state Fish and Game department, who listened carefully and wrote up a report, but they don't have much law enforcement power. They suggested I call the Massachusetts Environmental Police - they're our version of Game Wardens, but they have real police power. I filed an actual police report with them, an officer came to check it out, and a case file is now active.
