I'm trying to go back and edit the headline but I can't. In case anyone is interested in how this turned out:

-- I returned the tulip skirt. Main reason: The zipper kept getting stuck, and I didn't like the way it looked from the side (see photo #1). It's like a backwards diaper.

-- I got this one instead, seen in photo #2. I don't think those are the right sandals, but they were all I had in my hotel room. I also got another cami like the blue one but in pink. It is actually closer to the silk t in #1 in color, I don't know why everything looks so washed out in #2.

-- Picture #3 shows the skirt in maxi length (I've got it rolled up a few times in #2).

I'm keeping the sweater, I love it!

This is the link for the maxi skirt:

I...like all of it. I think's different from what you see everyday and i think it looks...modern? Anyway I guess you have to figure out if YOU love it. Are you buying because you're trying to be different? Or are you buying it because you love it so much you want to live in it? I'm asking because I, too, am addicted to new (and tire easily) and these are questions i sometimes ask myself before making a purchase (but mostly i just purchase >.>).

I actually like the silhouette of the skirt with the cardigan. It's very Tilda Swinton.

Una, it was the teal "Sgt. Pepper's" tunic top. I was desperately wanting a tunic for my skinnies and it was on sale. I still don't have a proper tunic (besides dresses that are too short).
This isn't the best pic ( I had it all bunched up instead of pulled down where it belonged) but here it is:

Thank you Sheila. I think mine is very similar to this one. The differences are: Mine is not polyester, it's rayon. Also mine cost a little more. Apparently the items from Bar III they sell on - line differ from the ones in store. I will try and rotate it a bit to play with it. Also I like your suggestion of a fitted top.

In the link you provided there was another suggested skirt.

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....Type=PDPZ1

This one's stretch and that appeals to me!

Is this the skirt in #1 picture?

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....sn_results

My first thought when seeing your photo was that this skirt needs a much closer-fitting top than the orange blouse you are wearing in the photo. Also I am wondering if you might try rotating the skirt so the split at the hemline is over one leg, as shown in the
Macy photo, instead of centered. I think the look would be more appealing to me.

Overall I applaud your venture into unfamiliar fashion areas and encourage you to continue your journey. I am a little too old, I think, for these looks but love them on you.

I love the skirt on you. It's different and fun. You and tucking are on good terms so I think you will be able to get a lot of use out of this. It also looks more comfy that a traditional pencil skirt and less conservative. The blue top is gorgeous on you and for $16 is a deal even for a layering top. I like the cardigan sweater from the front but it does seem to have a lot of volume going on in the back. I like it with skinnies in #5 but don't really care for it with the skirt. You have such a nice figure it seems a shame to hide it in such a voluminous piece. Just my 2 cents.

It's a good question whether you'll love these 6 months down the road. I had a shirt I bought out of my comfort zone a month or two back. Wore it once and now I'm through with it. But I also wear the skinnies I was wondering if I'd stick with almost every week now. I suppose it's trial and error. Funny thing about that top though, someone here said it just didn't look like me although it got thumbs up from all including Angie. Ends up, that person was right!!
I like both the skirt and the cardi but I think the cardi might edge out as somthing you'll still be reaching for later this year. Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be way off base Fun items you picked up!

Thanks for the support and advice! The skirt is cool but challenging. It looks odd from the side because it has volume in front from the draping. I am going to San Fran in a few hours, I have a day or two more to decide on whether or not to keep them.

The blue cami is very cool. I got it for $16 at Macy's, I saw one like it on Shopbob for $165! However it is a bra-challenged top so I can't remove my sweater easily.

Macy's on line has this skirt (not sold in stores). What do you think of this as an alternative?

Wowza! I love that skirt on you! In fact, I like everything you got, although I wouldn't wear the drapey cardi with the drapey skirt, IMO. I say keep it all. If you end up tired of the skirt, it can still come out on dressy occasions, and the cardi might actually go well with your usual style. And the orange top looks like a FAB color on you on my monitor!

I like the skirt and the cardi but not together. Personally I would not keep the skirt, I can see me getting tired of the skirt pretty fast and it may be challenging to layer with pieces. I'm not sure it's a versatile piece. But if you aren't looking for versatility, both pieces are sure fun. The cardi is really nice with the skinnies.

it is fun to venture into new territory isn't it?
I really like the skirt... I would wear it with some nice strappy sandals, or low vamp pumps.
The blue carmi will be a nice layering piece.
I like the cardigan with the skinnies, but not with the skirt. With the skirt it is too repetitive of the lines and pulls my eyes down giving me an impression of sagginess in the whole outfit.

I like the skirt on you. Its a great length and if it feels drapey and nice, then yay. The blue top is also a gorgeous colour. Not so sure about the cardi, from behind there is a lot going on. Difficult to judge in photos though - do you love it?

While in LA for 5 days I got most of my spring shopping done (just lacking some sandals and a few super-hot weather items).

Here are my new items. I am proud of one thing: I purchased something other than denim and knit tops! (Growth?)

#1 -- Drapey crossover skirt. Almost has the feel of harem pants. Paired with bright orange silk top. All new from Macy's Bar III.

#2 -- With taupe/wheat colored lightweight cardi. Also from Bar III.

#3 -- View of cardi from behind. It's fairly assymetrical.

#4 -- With blue cami, also from Bar III.

#5 -- With some of my own skinny jeans.

I paid less than $200 for all of the items plus a black sweater similar to the wheat one which I just couldn't photograph well enough. Bar III isn't expensive, quality is a little better than H&M though.

These looks are a departure from my usual 70s style. I felt good in these looks.

But I need your help. Will I end up hating this stuff? I am addicted to anything new, but I also tire of things easily. Am I just liking these because they feel different? Or is this an interesting new direction for me?

Oh yes -- any advice on shoes?
