I live in Boston which is on the sea and when it's high 60s-70F (same temps as your celsius ones, I did the conversion) I am in a short sleeve top, or lightweight long sleeve. I may be weird, I always feel warmer when there's humidity. If the humidity is high, it feels warmer to me. If the humidity is low I feel chilly. This applies even if it's raining.

In those temps I am fine without socks, with mules or other shoes that don't require socks. I may still need a light topper (jean jacket, utility jacket, cardigan). Of course if there's a breeze a windbreaker helps.

Okay just went back into my own personal WIW file in which I record temps and weather conditions (when I can remember to do so) and I see that similar temps my formula was: 1) jeans 2) loafers no socks 3) lightweight long sleeve top or short sleeve tee 4) an anorak that has a removable fleece lining. In this case, I kept the fleece lining in. No scarf, no hat.

Hope that helps. I do run hot.

Suz - It is almost 10pm here, we are leaving in about 12 hours and I am still putting and taking things out of my suitcase. LOL I did go shopping today and got this two inexpensive tops from H&M in finds. Black one is very sparkly but it does not show that well in picture. I am now also inspired by you and thinking of packing long gray cardigan in case it feels more moderate outside.

Ah, I get it.

Well...20 degrees can sometimes feel chilly and sometimes feel moderate. Cold winds from the sea do make a difference. So you need a windproof jacket and/or thin layers more than anything. Indoors will be fine.

For the dinner, the colourful velvet jacket with the top of your choice and jeans with booties would be perfect, I think. That jacket feels festive and special.

Another option would be the Zara jacquard jacket. I use nicer jackets to "dress up" jeans all the time for casual outings with friends where I still want to look and feel special. (Actually, for my lifestyle, that's "dressed up, LOL!)

Some other options...your Zara water resistant trench in red. For outdoors, obviously.

The grey jeans with a nice sweater.

Bring a beanie and a warm scarf, just in case, as well as patterned scarves for variety.

Suz - thank you for such a thoughtful answer, it is much appreciated. My biggest concern is that I cannot really imagine how 20 degrees on cloudy and rainy day with a cold wind coming from the sea actually feels. I hate being cold and miserable. My next priority is having comfortable shoes. Everything else is a bonus Another issue is that I am already in the fall/ winter frame of mind and have hard time incorporating more summery items from my wardrobe. I love wearing that red dress and have denim jacket that goes perfectly with it, but that would require another pair of shoes and hosiery so not sure that is worth the effort. I have ordered Cora dress from Boden and that would be perfect but it will not arrive on time for this trip unfortunately.

That jacket is a great idea. I don't think this looks seasonally confused at all. I just had a quick look at your Wardrobe and I might punch this up with some of your colour -- you have a great red sweater you could wear under it.

Another option for going out -- The patterned velvet blazer from Boden with one of your nicer tops underneath, and jeans. That's what I might do in this situation. Like Bijou, I don't think you need to buy anything new -- you just have to mix and match from your casual and office wardrobes.

Another example -- that Boden midi dress that looks so fabulous on you (red and white?) -- do you have a denim jacket or something to casualize it just a little? Aim for outfit juxtaposition.

Bijou - Thank You, Thank You! You are genius! For some reason I have completely ignored my summer wardrobe and overlooked this top. I concentrated on my fall/winter wardrobe which is very dark and boring. Just checked the weather forecast again, it now says between 19-22 Celsius, but cloudy with sporadic rain. So this jacket would be perfect for the temperatures but I don't like it with all this black. I have to rethink everything.

Hi Anchie, if you friend dresses up, I would take your trench coat rather than the light weight puffer jacket. I had a quick look at your finds and I thought that this Boden wrap top would be lovely paired with jeans and the yellow scarf or citron trench when going out to dinner.

The jacket that you have that is the same as Angie's is a great smart casual jacket and I would be likely to add this into the mix too. I don't think you need to buy anything new unless of course you want to!

I hope you have a wonderful time.

Good morning all, just woke up to find all this helpfull advices - thank you. We are leaving tomorrow morning and I have a day off today so have opportunity to go shopping before the trip. My life out of office is pretty casual, so my wardrobe is either casual or office appropriate. I don’t think I have a dressy top and all my winter dresses are kind of officy, so I am open to suggestions. A visual of such a dressy going out outfit would be great. I may hit Zara or H&M for some quick solution, but ideas or links are more then welcome. I know that my friend likes to dress up, she always puts effort even if she comes only for a coffee at my home.
I am also rethinking my choice of outerwear. This jacket is pushing this towards too casual for me. I usually wear this jacket only to bring out garbage or similar quick trips outside. I will bring umbrella but we hope that there will be some periods without the rain to explore the area. We are having breakfast and dinner in hotel, but will go out for lunch.

Agree with elizabeth that a girls trip might be a fun opportunity for “dress up” purely for entertainment. Maybe on the first or the last night you could wear something a bit special (even like fascinators or something over the top), take some pictures, have some silly fun.

How fun!

I agree with La Ped on rain gear. If you need to take something out to make room for it, I’d say leave a sweater or two behind. Those temps are not so cold that you’d need to layer two sweaters. (I’m assuming that you wear something under the sweaters). Sight-seeing, walking and shopping don’t require anything dressy, but you might want to check with your travel companions about what kind of dining.

This sounds wonderful! I would say the dress level depends on the spa ... I was at a lovely one recently and few people ever got out of the robes they were handed at check-in! If that's the case, then you may be set ... You could always bring a few accessories the dress up your black top for a slightly dressier casual look. In any case, enjoy!

First, my sincere apologies for my sporadic participation lately. My life is kind of hectic at the moment and fashion and shopping have taken back seats.
I am just in the middle of the packing for my 5 days vacation. It is a girls trip, my very good friend, her daughter, my daughter and me. We are going with the car, so I am not that limited with the space, but it’s my friends car, so don’t want to pack too much either. We are going to a spa hotel in small coastal town, but weather will not be very nice, 17-21 degrees Celsius and raining. We are planning to spend some of the time in a hotel pool and wellness area, but also do some sightseeing and walking, maybe some day trips in the neighboring towns if weather allows. Dining and shopping too.
Here is what I am thinking of packing but somehow I am not sure that this is ok. Does it feel too casual? Do I need more variety? Different jacket maybe?
Any feedback is very appreciated.

You can see in the picture 4 pairs of shoes - pool slides, exercise sneakers, converse sneakers and booties. 2 pairs of jeans, 5 sweaters, handbag, 2 scarves, hat and Uniqlo lightweight down jacket. Pile in the top left corner is my pj, swimwear and exercise gear.
Will add finds later when I am not on my phone.
